Great place for a paddle if you don't fancy the sea. We have swum here many times in the summer. And also taken the canoe out on this water. The drive through the Lammermuirs to get there is very pleasant.

Train to Edinburgh takes 20 - 25 mins. Good service.
Waverley Station is just off Princess Street in central Edinburgh. The geology of the city is fascinating and makes for some fabulous views. These can be particularly enjoyed from: The Scott Monument (in central Princess Street with a very narrow staircase at top!), The Botanical Gardens and from Arthur's Seat. The Grassmarket has some great cafes, pubs and restaurants. There are plenty of museums offering natural history, geology, arts and culture all of very high calibre. Then there are the festivals...A day out in the city is highly recommended.
