At PABLO, a cake shop that originated in Osaka, they bake their cheese cakes for their customers, either rare or medium, not unlike customers ordering steaks in a restaurant. For those who like that melt in your mouth sensation we recommend rare, and for those who like a fluffy texture and a nice aroma, medium is your best choice.

Yamachan Yamachan is one of the most popular takoyaki restaurants in Osaka, where the dish originated. What makes Yamachan’s takoyaki distinctive is the taste of the dough, which blends original chicken soup stock cooked with various fruits and vegetables, and Japanese style soup of kelp and bonito. Cooked on its special takoyaki pan at a very high temperature, the outside of the takoyaki ball is crisp but the inside remains nice and creamy. Although it is tasty without any sauce, you can also try it with their special soy sauce and ponzu.

Who doesn't love chicken? This reasonably priced restaurant specializes in chicken cooked in every way possible; fried, grilled, on skewers, you name it! Everything on the menu is only 280 Yen so it's easy to understand and a fun, cheap place to go for dinner or drinks. English menu available. They have many different locations in Osaka, look for the yellow and red sign outside.

Hikone is a small city at the shores of Lake Biwa. It is famous for its castle. Hikone makes a pleasant 3-6 hour stop-over on a trip between Tokyo and Kyoto, or it could be just a side trip from Kyoto. Yume Kyobashi Castle Road located just outside Hikone Castle's outer moat, is a modern shopping street that has been recently redesigned to make it more castle-looking style with town houses from the Edo period with their white walls, black roofs and lattice doors. You can find boutiques, restaurants, cafes and even souvenir shops along the street.

The Osaka Zoo houses some 1,500 animals of 300 different species, including koalas, lesser pandas, elephants, and the only kiwi bird in Japan. To promote better understanding of animals' natural habitats and their relationship with the natural environment, as well as awareness of the necessity for environmental protection. In the hippopotamus house the underwater behavior of these animals can be observed for the first time in Japan. The zoo has also introduced new exhibition techniques, as well as ecological new exhibits reproducing as closely and humanely as possible the natural environments of the animals.

Situated a stone’s throw from the bustling shopping district of Dotonbori is Hozenji Yokocho, an alleyway preserved in the style of 17th-19th century Imperial Japan. Step back in history to the Edo period by visiting this historical alley, which is filled with restaurants serving Japanese fare, and izakayas (traditional Japanese taverns). Also in Hozenji Yokocho is the statue of the spirit Fudomyoo, its moss-covered appearance is the result of visitors pouring water over it as a cleansing act.

It’s Sakura season! That means the beautiful cherry blossoms are in full bloom or will be soon and the entire city flocks to parks and rivers with their co-workers or friends to drink, chat, eat, and of course look at the pretty flowers! I recommend Sakura-no-miya Park where you can walk along the river and see many trees. Also good at night when there are various street food vendors to be found.

One of Japan's most famous shrines, the Fushimi-Inari Shrine is a must-visit when in Kyoto. Founded in AD 711 and dedicated to the goddess of rice-growing, Ukanomitama-no-mikoto, the shrine is still frequented by merchants and tradesmen who pray for prosperity. The main building dates from 1499 and features a spectacular four-kilometer-long avenue of bright orange "torii," or arches, each dedicated by a business (it takes some two-hours to travel past the 32,000 arches lining the route). Also notable are its many sculptures of foxes, reputed to be messengers of the gods. The avenue, consisting of two aisles of the north street and the south street, is divided into three major zones. The five open spaces, such as "Whale Park", are areas for people to stay and enjoy, with symbolic monuments, and are used to host various seasonal events. The "Art Park" on 1st Avenue hosts the Chicago Gallery where people walking through the avenue can enjoy replicas, in the form of porcelain panel paintings, art works of Chicago.

Lucua is located right next to Osaka station. Big mall with 11 floors, many shops and restaurants. Close to the tourist information center as well. You can find most of the local Japanese brand there. So if you wants a fashionable Japanese souvenir and unique pieces to add to your wardrobe, this place is for you. We actually enjoyed the non-clothing stores that sell stationery, trinkets and home stuff. You will get a view on Osaka from the park on the 10th or 11th floor.

Amerikamura In the 70s, all the warehouses in this area were transformed to sell clothes, books, records and many secondhand items brought over from the West Coast in the States. The media picked up on the uniqueness of the area and thus Amerikamura (Amemura), meaning American Village, was born. In the daytime, Amemura is a fun place to shop around and by night, it’s full of people frequenting the many bars and nightclubs. The little area is located just minutes away from the large Shinsaibashi shopping arcade and it is a must see for everyone who loves to people watch.
