Proctor District; A vibrant community, located west of Old Town. Come here if you are looking for a great place to window shop, play (bowling, movie theater and running shop) or if you'd like more traditional eateries and grocery stories (ie Safeway), you can find it all in Proctor. The shopping scene is very robust. Locally owned store fronts keep up with the latest trends and source from local suppliers. Perhaps you don't feel like shopping or your full from your last meal. Go bowling at Chalet Bowl or watch a movie at Blue Mouse Theater. Metropolitan Market is open 24 hours a day for your late night needs or forgotten items. Finally - Proctor District is home to the most robust Farmers Market, Saturday mornings. Great place to gather produce for the week and fun for kids.

6th Avenue Tacoma is a bustling Business District, stocked with local places to eat, play and party. Located between State and Alder Street, 6th Ave is the dividing line between North and South Tacoma. Day and night there are things to experience. From our award winning restaurants and creameries to the first craft brewery. Not the mention it's the host and stomping grounds for several festivals and large events throughout the year, including Art on the Ave.

Ruston Way Waterfront; 1/2 a mile down the hill from your stay with 3 miles of boardwalk that line the Puget Sound. Come here for your morning run, walk and afternoon happy hour/dinner. Ruston Way has many food options, but if you are looking for fresh seafood, you hit the jackpot! You have the most options for fresh fish here at the waterfront. If you feel like going on a little adventure afterwards, you can reserve a spot to go parachuting at the Ram (spring and summer months only) or reserve a party bike at Ruston Point!

Downtown Tacoma is located partially along the Thea Foss waterway and is home to Tacoma's largest museums, many storefronts and variety of eateries. The Museum of Glass, Car Museum and Tacoma Art Museum are all located in Downtown Tacoma. If you are looking to break your day up with shopping and good food, you'll find something to tickle your fancy probably on the same block you are on! Also home to a large conglomerate of historic buildings. Even us locals find great enjoyment in walking our Downtown District and supporting local business year round!

Point Defiance isn't just the Park (although this is the main attraction!) it also refers to a very robust and scenic neighborhood within Tacoma. Along Pearl Street you will discover most of the neighborhoods coffee shops and locally owned restaurants. Point Defiance is home to annual Taste of Tacoma, )which happens mid to late June), Tacoma's zoo and Aquarium (Zoo lights during the holiday season!) and the famous Point Defiance Park; the largest Urban Park in the United States. You'll love tranquility and natural scenery of Point Defiance.

FOOD SCENE 🍎
These restaurants and eateries are a few of my absolute favorites. I've tried to include a diverse selection of food, style, formality and location. You'll also notice I emphasize what restaurants are locally owned, as it may enhance your travel experience here in Tacoma. That is my goal; provide resources and information to make your stay just that much better. - Jenny
An iconic Tacoma Bar. In fact, it's the oldest in Tacoma! That alone is a reason to check it out. Serving local beer, bar food and local Valhalla Coffee. There is one pool table and dart board and their weekend calendar is often filled with local bands and artists who create a very lively night scene! Bring your dancing shoes and willingness to meet some locals, The Spar is a fun place to be on most Friday and Saturday nights.

Brewers Row - Located on the corner of 26th and Proctor. A casual beer and taco joint. Local beer, homemade guacamole and authentic tacos. If you sit outside, you'll get to people watch while enjoying your food. Not only that but this restaurant is located within a residential neighborhood! The surrounding architecture is inspiring and fun to be around.

Pomodoro; arguably the best Italian restaurant in Proctor District Tacoma! Monday and Tuesday they offer $20 bottles of wine and have weekly specials. If you arrive on a warm summer day they open the store front on 26th. People watching + great Italian food = fun. :) Cheers 🍷 🍷

Asado; my favorite steakhouse in Tacoma. Low lighting ambiance with creative artwork and flow. If you are celebrating an anniversary, birthday or any celebratory occasion, Asado is one to consider. One of the more expensive options in Tacoma (but less than El Gaucho!) I'v never been let down by their hospitality or food. Go here for Happy Hour or Lunch for great less expensive options. There is also a decant selection for vegetarians.

Need to grab a sandwich on the go for lunch? Call ahead of time or stop by to order a delicious (and large!) sandwich. Sandwiches are shareable and the wait goes quickly with the impressive deli skills of the professional and friendly staff. Locally owned and operated. We love MSM Deli!

Here for work travel and need a place to do some computer work for a few hours? Bluebeard Coffee is a spacious coffee shop with more seating that many other coffee roasters. On the corner of 6th and State Street. My favorite; the nitro brew. ☕️

Despite how busy Valhalla Coffee is, you can expect your drink to be made to perfection EVERY. TIME. So be patient if you come at peak hours! Very few sitting spots and tables are small. Don't expect this to be a quiet place to work, it's usually buzzing with warm greetings and friends saying 'hello'. Bold and delicious coffee, just across the street from Sushi Tama; the best Sushi restaurant in Tacoma!

The Table is one of my personal favorites. Farm-to-Table style dining with locally sourced food year round. Chef Derek is not only a master in Chef, but an inspirational leader and business owner. Katie Downs is one of the oldest restaurants at the Waterfront and is known for the handmade pizza and cold beer. Depending on where you sit and just how busy they are, you may have to go up to the counter and order vs. being waited on directly. So get a pitcher of beer and enjoy the tranquil views of the water! It's beautiful even on a rainy day.

Shenanigans has the most stunning architecture and finishings of any restaurant on the Waterfront. They too serve delicious locally source seafood, but offer a stellar Sunday brunch that others do not. Looking for a Mom and Pop restaurant that serves better food than your standard "greasy spoon" breakfast joint? You've found the right place. Montamara's has regularly changing speciality plates that focus on seasonality. They also serve Valhalla fresh brewed coffee and espresso. On Sunday's expect a wait if you don't arrive early. It's a small restaurant with limited seating, so it can also get a little loud, great place to bring the kiddos.

I crave the Matador on cold winter days. Not just the Mexican style food that get's your blood pumping! But also the dime lights, fire by the bar where friends gather and delicious margarita on the rocks. Their selection of tequila is also impressive and will keep you warm. 😉 A fun date night location and happening spot on Friday and Saturday night.

A traditional bar with not so traditional events. Thursday come by for trivia night. The Office regularly donates to local non profits in the area and advertise community events such as sports teams, fundraisers and more. Open from 11am - 2am daily and serving food later than most any surrounding bars. Don't think you are going to leave with your late night meal though! All food orders must be accompanied by a beverage of choice. 🍻 Cheers Friends.

The Antique Sandwich Co. serves some of the most epic lattes, americanos and fresh baked goods in the morning. If you're in a rush, don't go here! Although the service can be quick, quality is more important. About once a month the open the stage up to local artists and singers to showcase their musical talent. My mom played here as a kid and our family would listen to her on a local radio or watch her in person. I have many fond memories here and am so happy to see the continued efforts to host these community events.

Anthony's. A larger chain restaurant known for it's fresh seafood, big views and large atmosphere. If you have a large party or have a group of friends that like to go to places that are loud and lively, consider here. ARTS + CRAFTS 🎨
Tacoma is known for it's strong arts presence. We have one of the largest Historic Districts in the Nation and despite our tremendous growth, have continued to emphasize the importance of Arts. Our locally owned business and shops are at the forefront of this. Your support and enjoyment of these activities and storefronts is greatly appreciated by me and so many other Tacoman's 😊
A perfect rainy day activity. Get the kids (and yourself!) out of the house to burn off energy and get your creative juices flowing. You'll leave with your personal work of art! If you aren't interested in spending time painting, but would rather view the work of the local artist, Throwing Mudd has that too. Showcasing 100 local and regional artists, art pieces range from pottery, glass, wood, metal and more. This could be a great place to grab souvenirs to bring back home.
