Food Scene
It's literally our favorite restaurant in the city. Divine view literally right on the water! Food is awesome as is the waitstaff. We recommend dining outside (they have heat lamps and blankets if you get chilly) or inside is fun too. Full bar. Also, check out the Malibu Cafe (same owner) -- at the end of the pier. More casual, you order at the counter and no full bar, but the bloody marys are pretty fab. And OMG - the food is just as divine, and you feel like you're at the end of the earth...or at least the end of the pier. ;)

Dine outside, people watch...decent wine list, awesome oysters, and fab food. Sometimes you can just show up, but safer to make a reservation...easy enough to do on Open Table. Sitting at the counter inside is fun too...grab a piece of saltwater taffy on your way out. ;)

About a mile down the road so a 5-minute Lyft will get you to this old school eatery. They accept reservations for inside, but not for the outdoor "Blue Lounge" deck which is where you wanna be. Booth seating on the deck plus groovy 'beds' (where you can also eat or just have a cocktail) as the waves crash beneath. Awesome lunch/dinner hang with a DJ on the weekends. Small old school bar area you can try and grab a seat at...or try your luck snagging along the outdoor row of chairs facing the waves.

Awesome, casual restaurant with your table and chairs literally in the sand! Great for people watching...joggers, roller blades, bicyclists , and just folk walking along the bike path. Great for breakfast, lunch or dinner...depending on time of day, there may be a wait, but worth it. Paid parking right next to the Annenberg Beach House. Super chill and fun!

Healthy walking distance from the house...prob a good 20 min or so, but a nice walk through the neighborhood and a few blocks up Sunset and you're there. Great for lunch or dinner (and brunch on Sundays I think!)...or stay in your robe and order in. ;) Salmon is amazing as is the steak, the truffle mac&cheese OMG, and well, pretty much everything else. I believe they have a full bar now too. No view as it's part of a small strip of shops (including Starbucks, Moshi Sushi, Roast plus a dry cleaners, nail salon and wine shop), but the waitstaff is cool, the ambience is surprisingly decent (even the outdoor seating), and the food is fab.

Not ON the beach, but close to it. No view, but you don't miss it with Sam there nearly every night to greet you with his amazing staff ready to suggest and serve some pretty fabulous eats. A romantic, old school Italian restaurant. Make a reservation and Sam will make you feel like family. :)

An old school bar and restaurant, the Golden Bull has been around since before dirt...along with a good portion of its clientele ;) but oh so fun...and the fried chicken is to die for as is their steak sandwich. Plus their bartender knows a thing or two about mixology. If you're here on Halloween, go check the place out as the staff dresses up, some in drag. A little bit of old school Hollywood.

Authentic Italian including the waiters! Out of the way eatery that's become a staple for locals and out of town fans alike. Pretty decent wine list as well. A friend of mine flies in from Taos every year for her birthday just to order the Branzino here...her absolute favorite!

FANTASTIC location at the end of the pier with FANTASTIC food. The original and more casual version of Malibu Farm Restaurant (at the beginning of the pier) is equally awesome. I often have my birthday dinners there with friends, grabbing a couple picnic style tables at the very end of the pier. It's also casually elegant inside as well - with cozy atmosphere, There is also seating on the roof. All seats are fun. Just depends what you want.. Limited bar. The chef/owner is often there as is this was her first. Great for breakfast, lunch or dinner. love love LOVE!!!

Upscale bar and restaurant about a mile from the house. We usually lean towards the more casual Moonshadows or Malibu Farm, but Maestro's is pretty awesome in its own right. Great drinks and tower of seafood - you can eat in the bar area too when the restaurants gets too crazy. Valet parking. Full bar. Awesome oceanfront location.

Known more for its oceanfront location than its food, but still an iconic local restaurant. Just a 10 minute walk from the house. 5 min walk to beach and then another 5 minute walk along the sand will find you there. Food is ok, but view is lovely...they even light the ocean at night. Brunch is pretty decent - outdoor seating under oversized white umbrellas is a nice touch. Much more relaxing and beachy than indoors though the bar has its own quirky ambiance as well. ;) Find your way there before this iconic restaurant is gone for good - slated for the wrecking ball to make way for yet another outdoor mall. Reservations recommended. Valet parking - though really you should just walk. ;)

Fun space in the canyon with a ping pong table, oversized chess board, astroturf couch, BBQ, great drinks and outdoor restaurant. A little out of the way, but really cool. We've lived here for a decade and just discovered it!

Easy to moderate hike to an ocean view peak...and the trailhead is walking distance from the house. :)

Peacful, manmade lake open to the public. Gentle footpath around the lake, accessible from Sunset Blvd either by car or foot. Part of a longstanding religious center, but you'll notice that they honor and celebrate all beliefs. Nice relaxing stop on the way to Taste or Starbucks or all on its own.

Shopping
My absolute favorite boutique clothing store, featured in the movie "This Is 40" and located in the Palisades Village, about a 10-15 min drive up Sunset Blvd. Also nearby is Robek's, Noah's Bagels, DryBar, Starbucks, Coffee Bean, CVS, Gelson's and Ralph's Grocery stores, Post Office, a number of other boutiques, and at least two yogurt shops. ;)

Very small, highly-curated consignment shop...it was so nice when I first tripped upon it, I asked if they had a particular item in my size, not realizing it wasn't a schmancy boutique, but a consignment shop. ;) It's not for the budget-friendly, but it's still a deal. Designer women's clothing, shoes, bags, sunglasses, etc. - most in the smaller sizes...0-2-4-6,..thankfully. the eyewear, bags and shoes fit everyone ;)

Bucolic outdoor shopping area and people watching...order a sandwich at Malibu Mutts (yum!) and grab a table around the kids playground or dine at Tra Di Noi. Or a latte at Malibu Country Mart or scoop of gelato at Gromm's and grab a nearby adirondack chair...or go window shop at all the high-end boutiques lining the space...lots of tasty and interesting things to choose from :) http://www.malibucountrymart.com/directory

FARMERS MARKET at Pali High every Sunday morning. Plus in the village itself, there are a few nice clothing stores, boutique shops (Denise Caroline is awesome mid-range women's clothes), DryBar, Ralph's and Gelson's grocery stores, restaurants (Pearl Dragon - asian fusion with decent sushi bar which has the only bar in the village, Beech Street Cafe - indoor/outdoor eatery with awesome pizzas and salads, etc, Kay & Daves - mexican family friendly, Cafe Vida - healthy mexican delish), coffee shops (Starbucks, Coffee Bean), Elise Walker (high end women's clothes) plus CVS, Post Office, Car Wash, Pharmaca, etc. In essence, a little village. :)

Longstanding mexican restaurant across the street from the Malibu Pier, but we usually go there when they've got live entertainment. Great spot to just chill in the bar or grab a booth and settle in and check out whatever band they've got lined up. Our favorite...Lenny Goldsmith and the New Olds. Often members of DAWS (Lenny's sons) are in attendance along with experienced studio musicians.

Window shop, eat, drink, get your nails or a massage, cup of coffee (Starbucks, Peets, Cafe Luxxe, they got 'em all!).
