“Visiting Barra Lighthouse is a "three in one" visit. You get to visit Santo Antônio da Barra Fort (where the Lighthouse is located) and the Nautical Museum of Bahia. The fort was built in 1534, and the lighthouse has been reopened just recently. Climbing 82 steps, one can enjoy a beautiful view of the Bay of All Saints from above the lighthouse. The fort has a snack bar and a souvenir shop.”

“The Solar do Unhão is part of an architectural complex on the edge of Salvador that organizes jazz performances, has a restaurant with great views and always has a different artistic exhibition in its rooms. Next door, in the same complex, stands the Museum of Modern Art, with outdoor exhibitions. The place has a cozy cafe with a beautiful view of the sea; On Saturdays, from 6pm onwards, Live Jazz music take place at MAM. Highly recommended!”

“The Boteco do França is a traditional boteco, symbol of bohemian life in the city. The boteco is considered one of the best bars in the city for having a comfortable and informal atmosphere and serving delicious food. Speaking of food, the bar specialties are vinaigrette octopus and smoked gratinated oysters. The beer costs from seven to ten reais and the bar is air conditioned.”

“Good acarajés and abarás are the great legacies that Dinha left for Bahia. Nowadays her daughter is in charge. The place has earned the name of Largo da Dinha and is a very popular option on Salvador's nights, to eat and have a beer. Acaraje is is a local dish made from peeled beans formed into a ball and then deep-fried in dendê (palm oil).”

“The beach, frequented by locals. The waves here can be quite strong so take precautions when entering. Best walk is go down the hill and follow right on the coast. Nice view (10 minute walk).”

PRAIA DO BURACAO “The beach, frequented by young locals, is well hidden in-between houses and condominiums; many tourists do not know about it. The waves here can be quite strong so take precautions when entering. When tide is low, small pools form so one can enjoy while sipping on cold beer. The shortest route is to go around hotel Mercury on a sandy and rocky path (20 minute walk).
