Guidebook for Malibu

Parks & Nature
One of the top hiking spots in Malibu is just down the street from the listing! It's right along our breathtaking ocean view road with the famous Malibu coastline background turnout that is not only the cover of numerous LA guidebooks, but also in many movies, shows and commercials! The Solstice Park trails feature difficulty levels for anyone, include ocean vistas up and down the coast, a vintage mansion with water wheel grottos that you can walk around, as well as an early California settlers fort! Maps are online or in the park. Free parking gets packed, but luckily you're staying nearby so you can still sleep in and get a spot, or let us know and we'll direct you to back route access from the listing directly! We can even pack a gourmet picnic lunch for you and your guests!

Closest, usually less crowded, and best up, as well as down coast views of Malibu beaches, with surfing to the North and swimming to the South. Bathrooms and outdoor shower provided. Free street parking along beach. The restaurants of Solstice Beach Club (CLOSED FOR COVID/TBD REOPENING) and Malibu Seafood right across street.

Largest Malibu beach. Great for parallel jogging trail or on beach. Surfing and swimming throughout. Longest stretch of non-house-blocked Malibu coastline. Inside bathrooms+outdoor showers. Grocery stores at either end (Pavilions then Vintage Grocers). One ocean view restaurant at Westward end, called the Sunset. Free parking along PCH between paid parking and beach, as well as paid parking also along PCH, but also right against sand.

Another great hiking spot with another waterfall, like Solstice. It's a little farther North on PCH from the listing, but if you're an avid hiker it's a good second day visit and you can walk over to Paradise Cover for lunch or sunset! Parking lot parking or street parking nearby is free, but again, it can get crowded!

Probably the most iconic Malibu surf spot and great for a traditional Malibu photo op, however, it's very shallow for surfing, despite having three breaks. Also, because it's such a die hard favorite it can attract some difficult characters. We highly recommend family's or couples looking for a more romantic time to enjoy the views from the Pier or restaurant, and spend their beach time at Corral, Paradise Cove or Zuma. Also, free street parking is usually non-existent, as folks often live in their vans there, but paid parking can be available either above or below the Pier. Again, just don't plan to park at the nearby for free at Cross Creek town center, as you'll likely get a ticket.

Great huge rock formations on the beach and little coves for exploring that is typically less populated, as is common at the North end of Malibu. Make sure to stock up on provisions before you head that way though, as the closest shopping center is the more expensive Trancas area where Vintage Grocers is located. Also, the last gas station, a Chevron, is there, but rather expensive, as well, incase you would rather fuel up at the bottom of our road or the Arco between the two.

Great day trip to one of California's Islands! Most folks don't even know that they exist! There is a cute touristy side with little nautical shops and treats, along with a great easy swimming area, as well as harbor for boat watching or rentals. It's a popular activity to get golf carts to explore the island. There's even an almost deserted side of the island that's very beautiful to explore, if you're feeling more intrepid!

Food Scene
Expensive celebrity sushi hot-spot with valet that's right along the coast. It is also in walking distance of one of Malibu's top surf spots, "Surfrider" as well as one of Malibu's three town hubs, this one being Cross Creek. We highly recommend the chef's tasting menu for value and variety!

Now a chain, but started here! It's located on the Malibu Pier and offering trendy versions of foods from the local farm with a view of the most famous surf spot in Malibu. Paid parking is just after the Pier, if you're headed South (or free along PCH if you can find it). It is also walking distance to one of Malibu's three main town hubs "Cross Creek" for shopping, park and flat park trails.

Either find your own private bit of paradise along the beach or join the cafe's theme-park like setup. You can either stay at the restaurant for feet in the sand dining and cabana lounging or venture a bit further up the beach to find your own private cove. Enjoy watching surfers or the sunset. However, don't plan on bringing your own board down, unless you plan to park on the street, as they're very strict on only using their paid parking lot for the restaurant.

Perched above some of the most exclusive houses in Malibu, right above the water and along PCH, Geoffrey's is the longest running ocean-view fine dining option in town. Reserve here early for a limited menu of lovely options and great wine selection. It will impress anytime of day and be quieter than most the rest of the 'Bu!

Opened by the maitre de and head waiter of the long-time local fave, Guido's, V's is a throw back to all those good Italian favorites with current flare in a luxurious, yet relaxed setting. You feel part of the town, here. It's not on the ocean, but it's close to everything, and we can't imagine you not having a lovely time, even if you just pop in for a quick glass of your favorite with the bartender!

Whether you've got kids, business or a romantic outing planned, this is a great place to grab reliably elegant fare in a park setting. It might not be the beach, but it's the best restaurant off the beach you'll probably go to in Malibu. The playground nearby is especially useful for parents wanting to enjoy a meal whilst letting the kids enjoy themselves as well. Not to mention they do grabNgo for park picnics, as well as are walkable to shopping, if you'd like to continue indulging!

Checkout the Walk of Stars, the Griffith Observatory and Musso & Franks Restaurant for some old timey (albeit very tourist-trappy) film fun! You'll walk where the stars have walked, view the actual stars, as well as all of LA from a gorgeous vantage point, and be taken back in time to the golden era of Hollywood with the help of the waiters in tuxedos that served the great actors and agents from the starting time of movie magic! If you'd like to dive even deeper Universal Studios theme park and general studio tours are all available nearby. You can also access the Valley from Kanan and Malibu Canyon, but this is the only route that offers more than hiking along the way. You can stop off at little funky shops, checkout a play at the outdoor theater, or even have probably the most tasty vegan dinner of your life under the fairy lights at the Inn! Oh, and there's a great feed bin to checkout some animals across from a great surf spot with street and paid parking, that's often less crowded than Malibu, as well as located nearby to a great seafood market and Thai dive that do offer free parking if you dine.

CONGRATULATIONS on starting your vacation at The Malibu Oasis, soon! We are Chris & Jen Parke. Chef & human rights lawyer. New lucky parents to baby Emerson Rose! :) We are excited to host you at our magical Malibu oasis! Since GPS can be a bit touchy in Malibu until you’re at our WiFi hub (Name: TheWifi & Ext 2/5G Password: seabreeze90265) we have found it helpful to encourage plugging in GPS before you head on over as well as to supply a few landmarks: we are half-way between The Colony + Zuma Beach, just off The PCH at Solstice Beach Club + 76, big blue grey castle mansion! You PARK off the street in private reserved parking just above our vineyard along the wrought-iron fence before the house. Your personal ENTRANCE is the lamp-lighted gate to the LEFT HAND SIDE when facing the property. Simply follow the rose+vineyard lined steps down to the gravel path past the pond & gazebo then around back to the second glass door you’ll see (it’s just under the infinity of the pool). The KEY will be in the lock on the starfish keychain (later you will lift the “fancy French” handle UP to LOCK). The other key is for the club house/she-shed! It’s stocked with extra toys and supplies for adults as well as children!!! It’s easiest to access the POOL from the steps that run along the BACK of the pool wall itself; towards the organic vegetable garden under the infinity waterfall just outside your space. There are white-washed arrows reinforcing all these instructions posted throughout the property. Please feel free to help yourself to any of our Malibu oasis orchard fruits or vegetables growing during your stay! We appreciate you enjoying and treating our home like your own home. We try to provide everything you need and more (beautiful surroundings, fun games, pool, pond, orchard, vineyard, grill, clubhouse, stocked fridge, extra linens under sofa, supplies in bathroom cabinet, and next to fridge etc.) so you can just enjoy yourself, but are on call to answer any questions or help as much as possible, and also do have a regular maintenance staff, needs be. EVERYTHING in the listing photos is included in your price to enjoy during your stay, except extra guests, early checkin/checkout, pet (each $45/per), or non-standard food & beverage items stocked as backup for you or the additional chef & tours (all listed below or in your suite aka ingestible items other than coffee, spices & cooking oil) that you may book a minimum of 24 hours in advance. Please let us know if you need to make any of the above charges to your reservation and we will just send you an updated invoice adjustment through Airbnb to settle the charge. Easy like a Sunday morning! Anything else, like booking Chris’s personalized private chef services, local reservations, or suggestions on activities at property or further afield, please don’t hesitate to ask or read our handy guidebooks! The below probably goes without saying, but we have tried very hard to host a lovely experience by opening up this Malibu oasis to you, so per the house rules agreed upon booking, as well as in order to maintain the integrity of the space for your enjoyment plus that of future guests, please just be mindful of: - non-oasis noise (like keeping down any profanities outside or general volume, especially after sun down) - trash being left out aka likely to blow into our gorgeous surrounding State Park that we are luckily nestled within - utilizing only the septic safe toilet paper provided to go down the toilet aka nothing else - ensuring to replace hot tub lid so it doesn’t do a huge temperature drop that we have to charge you for; not pressing light+then temp so mode changes off SL; not spilling foreign substances or entering hot tub without washing off first; topping up the hot tub with the hose if it goes below safe jet level before using or let us know any of the above and we will sort; and please just try to be respectful of general energy or water waste) - be extra mindful of children or pets with the new environment and furnishings, as it’s especially hard to get repairs done for other guests whom want to enjoy the space next with the virus ie NO pets on inside furniture - no smoking inside or near windows - no illegal drug use - no unauthorized guests or vehicles - no outdoor shoes inside *per your Airbnb booking contract we reserve the right to charge you or claim through Airbnb for any damage repair costs; please note the standard for unclogging the septic during or just after your stay in Malibu is usually $500+ by a certified plumber, hot tub repair/refill $300* and everything is else is just standard item replacement or cleaning rate Otherwise just enjoy yourselves so so SO much at The Malibu Oasis!! Cheers! Chris & Jen Xoxo PS Things to enjoy around The ‘Bu: Specific date activity-wise, the local paper provided in your place is a great resource for selecting something tailored, as is the chamber of commerce website! Hiking-wise Solstice (# one hiking in LA/cover of LA tourist guide - don’t forget to take a picture at that big out with the famous point in the background!) is just at the start of our road to the right-hand side before you get to PCH with old forts, multiple trails, burned down mansion, & waterfall (you can even access it from our neighborhood vi the back route - just ask - Solstice Beach Club for relaxed chic or Malibu Seafood for casual super fresh fare or any market for DIY style), then there's a few other tucked away falls down by Escondido (Paradise Cove cheesiness or Sunset's luxe for lunch) or cliff jumping up by Malibu Creek (Farm on the Pier for chill chic lunch or Malibu Kitchen for a grabNgo). True Native American cave painting caves at top of our hill too! Beach activity-wise there's Corral, the little less crowded beach with the Solstice beach club at the bottom of our road on the left-hand side at PCH, unless booked for private event, provides towels+chairs+umbrellas along with their laid food+drink service, even morning burritos, or if you just want to go solo and bring a market picnic or use the Malibu Seafood market and even mini-market at the 76, as they stock basic beach supplies, too!) you can even swim a bit north up to Latigo point for amazing surf; Zuma is the Baywatch pretty packed long beach with traditional burger stands and allows surfing unlike Corral; Paradise Cove is a smaller combo of touristy restaurant cabana beach with secret reef hike to surf coves or picnic spots with the right tide; Surfrider with the Malibu Farm restaurant or Nobu as the more “sceney” quintessential Pier surf spot walkable to town but can be very crowded; or County Line has the bikers fish market Neptune Net, medium crowds and nothing else nearby except a few homes. Please feel free to take any toys, blankets, gourmet picnic backpack or the beach umbrella from the she-shed/club house with you for the day! Shopping or entertainment-wise, most stores close around 4-6pm & music can be found at the above different spots (mainly Cafe Habana on Wednesday; Duck Dive or Taverna Tony’s on Saturday), but there is always something special if you check the above sites, like at the Malibu Theatre or Bluffs Park, including a Sunday Farmer’s Market at the Library parking lot. We will certainly try to let you know, if we are aware, as well! Also, there is plenty just around the Oasis to do with the hot tub, pool, pond, swings, hammock, BBQ, badminton, croquet, bocce, tee pee, mini-organic vineyard, orchard & veggie picking, bird spotting, chicken coop, Malibu Monopoly+board game playing, reading, club-house toy treasure chest or add a quote macrame wall hanging! Not to mention UberEats, Postmates, + DoorDash all deliver instant foodie fun here! That includes Uber or Lyft rides at all hours to safely go out on the town!
