Sight of the May, 1864 battle that was the first with U.S. Grant in command of the Union Army against Robert E. Lee. Although inconclusive, this battle marked the beginning of the end for the Confederacy, as this campaign eventually ended at the gates of Richmond, VA.

Also restored are the adjoining slave housing, including recently discovered quarters of Sally Hemings. Monticello is about 1 hour away.
