Taormina is a very ancient town and houses like this, in the historic center, are built on the remains of Greek/Roman/medieval ones. It was established on Mount Tauro by the Calcidesi who built a fortress on the rock that rises just behind the house and gives walks, climbing paths and long stairs leading to the sea. On top there is the castle, whose access by steps begins right at back of the house. At the very end of this path, there is the delicious church of Our Lady of the Rock, half built into a cave, which is open on Sundays and public holidays. From there and from our terraces you can enjoy a magnificent view of the sea turning from Calabria to Augusta, Etna and its slopes. The sun rises behind the Ancient Theater, visible from the balcony onto which give the rooms. During the summer full moon phases, you can see the moon rising from the sea. A gym is nearby. The town offers, in addition to the greek Roman Theatre which is worthy to visit, many glimpses of archaeological and architectural sites, that can be discovered along the narrow streets of the village. The medieval Palazzo Corvaia houses the Museum Etnoantropologico Panarello (currently under renovation), which preserves rare pieces of Sicilian art and craft. In the Greek theater or in the Congress Hall or in the Public Garden, are held Festivals of cinema, music, dance and theater, of which you can find the programs on the web. By car, continuing along the same street of the house, you can reach the pretty village of Castelmola, even higher than Taormina, where there are some characteristic restaurants and pizzerias, a fresh location in summer nights. A bar on the panoramic square prepares a delicious granita. The nearby village of Calatabiano, with its castle, is the gateway to the internal routes, for those who like to explore the territory.
The fishing village of Mazzarò with its bays has turned into a succession of hotels, beaches and reception facilities. The Isola Bella, with its natural park, can be visited by appointment.
Nearby, are worthy to visit (checking time to time accessibility and opening hours): the ancient villages of Savoca and Forza d'Agrò, with the Byzantine church of SS. Peter and Paul. In Giardini Naxos, the archaeological park of the greek town of Naxos, with the archaeological museum, contains the remains of the ancient Calcidese settlement to which Taormina owes its foundation, in the fourth century b.C.
