“Lovely place to stroll through, especially on the weekends. On warm sunny weekend days it usually has events, food trucks, and is simply a massive park around a small lake, full of beautiful trees and grass.”

“The Skopje Fortress (Macedonian: Скопско Кале, transliterated Skopsko Kale), commonly referred to as Kale (from kale, the Turkish word for 'fortress'), is a historic fortress located in the old town of Skopje, the capital of the Republic of Macedonia. It is situated on the highest point in the city overlooking the Vardar River. The fortress is depicted on the coat of arms of Skopje, which in turn is incorporated in the city's flag.”

“If you are in the Aerodrom area you can go there for shopping or have a drink in one of the bars. During day kids can play in the DejaVu playground while you enjoy your drink in the bar. At night DejaVu transforms into party place with mostly Balkan music. Across you find the older shopping mall Biser. Nearby is the Gastro Bar Trend, a good place for drinks and food. ”

“The place where locals go to hike and enjoy the clean air with the best views of Skopje. You can hike to the summit (about 2.5 hours) or take the funicular from the middle of the mountain. There is also bus going until the start point of the funicular. ”

“The Millennium Cross on Vodno Mountain’s highest point is one of the first sights you’ll notice from most everywhere in Macedonia’s capital city, Skopje. At 1,066 meters (3,497 feet) the views from the base of the Millennium Cross are impressive, although finding out how to get there isn’t exactly clear. Fortunately, that’s the most difficult part; once you have the directions visiting the Millennium Cross is pretty easy. Get To The Bus Station Next To The Bus Station You’re likely to be told about the “Millennium Cross” bus line and all the stops it makes throughout Skopje. But it doesn’t, so don’t wait around at bus stop 11 as I did only to find out the route is essentially unpredictable. Skopje is small enough that from most points in the city, like Macedonia Square, you can walk to the International Bus Station within 30 minutes. (It’s roughly 2 kilometers, 1.2 miles, away.) Next to the International Bus Station is a large parking lot you can call the national bus station. Cable car cost is 120 denar, about 2 euro, for a round-trip. One way tickets are available as well, many bikers take the lift up, then cycle back down.”

“This supersized pile of Italianate-styled marble has been a giant receptacle for Skopje's recent splurge on government-led monuments to boost national pride. Inside, there are three floors displaying the cream of Macedonian archaeological excavations beneath the dazzle of hundreds of tiny lights. Highlights include Byzantine treasures; sophisticated 3D reconstructions of early Macedonian faces from skulls; a pint-sized replica of an early Christian basilica showing the life phases of mosaic conservation; and a Phoenician royal necropolis.”

“Skopje Fortress Kale is a historic site dating to 6th century. Only a few restored walls remain since the massive 1963 earthquake, but this magnificent ancient fortress is well worth a visit since it is among the landmarks of the Macedonian capital and reveals panoramic views of the Vardar River. Useful Information Address: Samoilova, Skopje More Info: Across from Mustafa Pasha Mosque”

Place to eat
“If you are looking for a traditional experience while in Skopje, this fine Macedonian establishment is always busy for a good reason and is definitely worth the trek to the western suburbs to enjoy its many pleasures. Featuring amiable waiters who wish only to bring yet another armload of dishes to your table, if you’re on a diet (and you might have to be after reviving yourself with an espresso), try the čiorba (sour soup), served in hanging copper pots with lashings of fresh white bread.”

“Known to everyone including the ex-pats who keep the place open as the Irish pub, this long-standing Skopje institution on the Kej across from the Old Bazaar comes with a Victorian railway theme and a bar that stocks draught Guinness. There are bar snacks galore, live music at the weekends and a very pleasant outdoor terrace on the edge of the water during the more clement part of the year.”
