“It’s a gorgeous place. You need sneakers shoes because of the path. You can bring your own food and drinks, no place where to buy here . Wear a hat and sun cream protection because the sun is very hot when you walk in the reserve . ”

“For anyone holidaying in the southeast of Sicily, one place that really shouldn’t be missed, is the Vendicari Nature Reserve. There are many reasons for this assertion, none more convincing than the fact that its beautiful selection of beaches are amongst the least frequented in Sicily……at least by humans. Situated on the southern-most part of Sicily’s east coast, Vendicari is a mixture of lagoons (pantano), sand dunes, rocky coastlines, and sandy beaches. It was instituted in 1984 and is home to a wide variety of flora and fauna. The high salinity of the ground provides an ideal habitat for Mediterranean maquis, herbs such as thyme and rosemary and other prickly customers such as juniper bushes.”

“Immersed in nature and surrounded by mountains, this park perfectly represents the Sicilian side that goes beyond beaches and monument. Easily reachable from the motorway Catania-Messina, the Gorges of Alcantara river are stunningly set among rocks, with very clear (but also very cold!) waters where you can immerse your feet.”

“the beach of Palermo. It is actually separated from the city by a large green park, you can get there from the center in 25 minutes by bus (n. 806) or by car. To attend from April to November, however in the months of July and August it is really too crowded and chaotic since it is a not very large beach”

“Located at only 15 min. from Trapani this reserve is a true hidden gem for hikers. Flowers, small fauna and vegetation make this place amazing especially during the Spring. Halfway enjoy a swim at the old tonnara where are still some building and remote accommodation. ”

Island
“Isola Bella is a gorgeous pebbled beach which includes an islet of the same name. Isola Bella, known as the Pearl of the Ionian Sea, is considered the most charming and gorgeous beach of the district of Messina. Placed close at the foot of the town, the bay has a pebbled beach, but the most important attraction is the islet of the same name located in front of the beach characterised by a lush vegetation. The islet is connected to the mainland by a narrow strip of beach which is covered by water at high tide. Water is blue and clear, full of spectacular marine flora and a fascinating seabed.”

“Just go to the lidos (Lido Arenella) at the end of the main street. The lidos have good facilities for families with kids (pedal boat), music and a bar, where you can have Sicilian granitas.”

Bay
“Tucked in between Golden Bay and Gnejna Bay is the smaller and quieter sandy beach, Ghajn Tuffieha. The long stairway down to the beach makes it not the easiest to reach, but it is certainly well-worth the climb down. There is a sunbed rental and a small snack bar. ”

Mountain
“One of Salina's six ancient volcanoes and the island's highest point (962 meters), Fossa delle Felci provides stunning views of the Aeolian Islands, Sicily and the Italian mainland. There are several paths which lead to the Fossa, but the suggested one starts at the 'Santuario della Madonna del Terzito', in Valdichiesa, which is located between Malfa and Leni. A guide is not required for the Valdichiesa path. It is recommended to begin the hike in the early morning, in order to avoid ascending the Fossa in the midday sun. Depending on your speed, the ascent can take between two to three hours. The lower portion of the hike is through Mediterranean vegetation, with a variety of scents and flora. The upper portion, is through the pine and chestnut forest which crowns the Fossa delle Felci and provides cool shade from the hot sun. Bring hiking shoes, plenty of water, energy snacks and a panino and fruit, to be enjoyed at the top while enjoying the spectacular view. ”
