“Situated between Scopello and San Vito lo Capo it was supposed to be a national road but luckily it did not happen and it was created a natural reserve. A true paradise rich in Mediterranean macchia, flora and small fauna. Don't miss the wild white sandy beaches, know as Calette. Recommend for hiking and nature lovers.”

“For anyone holidaying in the southeast of Sicily, one place that really shouldn’t be missed, is the Vendicari Nature Reserve. There are many reasons for this assertion, none more convincing than the fact that its beautiful selection of beaches are amongst the least frequented in Sicily……at least by humans. Situated on the southern-most part of Sicily’s east coast, Vendicari is a mixture of lagoons (pantano), sand dunes, rocky coastlines, and sandy beaches. It was instituted in 1984 and is home to a wide variety of flora and fauna. The high salinity of the ground provides an ideal habitat for Mediterranean maquis, herbs such as thyme and rosemary and other prickly customers such as juniper bushes.”

“The Royal Palace of Palermo (11th-12th centuries) is the main monument to represent the wealth and political and cultural power of the Norman kingdom, a model of Arab-Norman architecture. An ancient Islamic Castrum erected on pre-existing Punic origins, from 1072 it became the residence of the Norman sovereigns. Its Torre Pisana (second quarter of the 12th century) is a unique example of a fortified tower, similar to those of the Norman donjon, whose plan is similar to ifriqeni Islamic models. La Joharia (mid-12th century) includes Sala dei Venti and Sala di Ruggero. The Sala dei Venti, or of the four columns, derives its architecture from the durqa'a, the inner courtyard of the Islamic ifriqeni and Fatimid palaces. It is preserved intact and is in fact one of the best preserved examples of this architectural typology in the medieval Mediterranean. Sala di Ruggero is characterized by impressive mosaics that cover the walls and the cross vault with profane, hunting and paradisiac scenes. The mosaics of Stanza di Ruggero, together with the fragments preserved in the Pisan Tower and the mosaic panel of Sala della Fontana in Palazzo della Zisa, are rare examples of profane decorations, distinguished by the significant presence of figurative elements derived from Islamic and Sassanid culture.. A widespread genre in the Byzantine courtly world of which today there are no traces except in historical sources.”

“15 minutes far from Villa le Girandole, Siracusa is one of the richest cities in terms of culture and history of the whole Sicily, and it has been for ages the crucial centre of the entire province. The city is famous for the Greek colonizations, which are clearly reflected on the cultural heritage, and can be admired on the anphitheathers and on the architecture, especially walking through the enchanted Ortigia. Since 2005, Siracusa with the Necropoli of Pantalica is inserted in the World Heritage Site of UNESCO, because "monuments and archeological sites located in Siracusa are the most amazing example of extraordinary architectual creation which huge various cultural aspects: Greek, Baroque and Romans". ”

“The Greek Theatre of Taormina is the most fascinating historical monument of the “pearl of the Ionian Sea”. It is one of the world’s most popular tourist attractions, so that Johann Wolfgang Goethe in his famous “Journey to Italy” wrote: “No theater audience has never had such a sight in front of him.” The greek-Roman theater is divided into three parts: the scene, the orchestra and the auditorium. The scene, which is in front of the auditorium, is the place where the actors acted. According to the experts’ reconstruction, this part was decorated with two rows of columns, one facing the other. The scene has also three large arched openings at a symmetric distance one another, and six niches placed three on the right and three on the left of the central arch. On the scene there are the remains of six column bases and four Corinthian columns that were raised after 1860. The auditorium is formed by a series of steps starting from the bottom and climbing upward, spreading up to the summit, where spectators were seated. The orchestra is the lowest level of the whole theatre. This space was intended for musicians who played during the performance. Dug directly in the hard rock of Mount Tauro, in the third century BC, it could accommodate thousands of sitting spectators. It is known that the Greeks architects used to build their most important buildings as if Nature could be part of them. The natural scenery was integrated with the architecture of the theatre, like light and air insinuated between the columns of a greek temple. The theatre shape could allow a perfect listening from any area of the auditorium. In the late imperial period, the theatre was adapted for gladiatorial games. With the fall of the West then, everything came to a end. The marbles were removed and so the monumental columns. Only after the end of the war, some sections of the original construction were completed by a great work of restoration.”

“ Il Teatro Politeama Garibaldi (con la parola Politeama si intende un generico teatro dove si danno rappresentazioni di vario genere, e pertanto è improprio utilizzarla per riferirsi nello specifico a detto Teatro) si trova sulla Piazza Ruggero Settimo (a sua volta usualmente denominata Piazza Politeama) al centro di Palermo. / The Politeama Garibaldi Theater ( the word Politeama means a generic theater where different kinds of performances so therefore it is improper to use it to refer specifically to the Theater) is located on Piazza Ruggero Settimo (in its usually called Piazza Politeama) in the center of Palermo. The name comes from the Greek "πολι" (many) and "θέαοαμαι" (look, watch).”

“A Norman church refurbished many times in other periods. It looks baroque outside but once you get in you'll find the most stunning and precious bizantine mosaics of the Norman period. This church is a must see in Palermo, together with the other two in the same piazza!”

“This site is at only 20 min. from Trapani and it is included in all the itineraries of Sicily. Here lived the Elymians, one of oldest tribes of Sicily. The temple was not completed but it still looks great especially at night, when you can see it lit up. At the top of hill, you will find a beautiful theatre that hosts representation at summer.”
