“The long, grassy National Mall is home to iconic monuments including the Lincoln Memorial and the Washington Monument. At the eastern end is the domed U.S. Capitol, and the White House is to the north. It's also flanked by Smithsonian museums, and its lawns and pathways are often crowded with school groups, joggers and softball teams. Nearby, the Tidal Basin reservoir is known for its blossoming cherry trees.”

“I’m an avid hiker and Great Falls Park hosts my go-to (and favorite) local trails. It’s GORGEOUS and hard to believe this natural wonder is only 15 minutes away! If you’re not a big hiker but love nature, it’s still worth a visit just to see the falls (they’re an easy 5-10 min walk from the parking lot). The park actually spans across the Potomac River, so there’s a VA side and a MD side. I love both. :) Recommended hikes: River Trail on the VA side (easy-moderate) and Billy Goat Trail on the MD side (moderate-difficult). If you don’t have a National Parks pass, the entry fee is $15/car for a three-day pass (valid for both VA and MD sides of the park). But I know how to visit for free — ask me my secret!”

“I recommend seeing this place at night. All the monuments are beautifully lit up, relatively walkable between each other, and it is so much less crowded and cool at night than during the day. Either side of the statue has his Inauguration Speech and his Gettysburg Address which are emotional and somehow never becomes irrelevant to current events. Across the reflecting pool from the Washington Monument and the US Capitol building, it's a stop along the National Mall that you have to see. ”

Beach
“About an hour away in Calvert County, MD: Featuring a half mile of bay-front sandy shore and a netted swimming area, Breezy Point Beach is an unspoiled spot to beat the heat. With plenty of space for sandcastles and shark-tooth hunting as well as a playground and picnic area, the park is a definite kid-pleaser. (The shore line can be a bit pebbly so bring water shoes). There is also a 200-foot pier for fishing and crabbing if you want to secure your supper. . Breezy Point is open from 6 a.m. to dusk. Entry to the park is cash only. Admission is $10 on weekends and $6 on weekdays for adults;”

“Catoctin Mountain Park, located in north-central Maryland, is part of the forested Catoctin Mountain ridge that forms the eastern rampart of the Appalachian Mountains. . The east side of the park features stunning vistas, challenging terrain, and access to Cunningham Falls. Most trailheads begin at the visitor center. Parking and trailheads are also available by the park headquarters and at three points along Park Central Road. . The west side of the park is the wilder side. Adventurous hikers are more likely to see wildlife, wetlands, and an up-close view of nature. Remnants of former farms dot the land. The park's picnic areas, campgrounds, and back-country shelters connect with the trails. ”
