“FIRST museum to visit! The second-largest art museum in the world, it was founded in 1764 when Empress Catherine the Great acquired an impressive collection of paintings from the Berlin merchant Johann Ernst Gotzkowsky. ”

Sögufrægur staður
“Peter and Paul Fortress marks the very spot St. Petersburg was founded. It was here, Tsar Peter erected a small wooden hut in 1703 AD and oversaw the construction of the mighty fortress. The bell tower of the Peter and Paul Cathedral. Peter and Paul Fortress also played the most crucial role during the Russian revolution and was later used as a prison. Make sure to tour the walls (you will have to pay a little extra fee) and enjoy the beautiful view of the river Newa and the Winter Palace on the other side. Read my full guide to Peter and Paul Fortress here.”

Opera House
“The beautiful Opera House is worth a visit. Walk on it's roof and look out over the Oslo Fjord or towards the city centre. Take the metro to Oslo Central Station, or the tram or the bus to Jernbanetorget then walk a few minutes to the opera house.”

“ICONIC! A public park, open 24/7, free entrance. This is where locals go to show off their kids or dogs, rubbing shoulders with tourist crowds - all supervised by hundreds of naked statues. Angry boy (Sinnataggen) being the most famous. The place looks a bit like it could have been buildt by a certian Adolf, but its message is quite the opposite. Pay attention to the bronze plates around the fountain.......”

“My short official presentation of Old town: Its the place where the capital of Sweden, Stockholm was founded 1252 and that it has attractions, restaurants, cafes, pubs and shopping. And has stores and places for crafts, curiosities and souvenirs. The buildings is from the middle ages and has basement vaults used by for example restaurants serving food. In old town you can find beautiful churches, museums and the royal castle. Old Town is worth visiting every time for tourists, but especially nice at the summer time, when its possible to walk around in Old Town and continue further by the close by water, and take the boat across to "Royal djurgården" where there is attractions like "Skansen" and "Gröna Lund" and "Waldemars Udde".”

“Stockholms Zoo and more! At Skansen the past and present meet, fantasy and facts, animals and culture, traditions and trends. Here, the versatile and the unique, the playful and educational, the eternal and the fleeting meet. Sweden's soul in a living museum, in the middle of Stockholm. Lively, fun and joyous for all generations, occasions and moods. Skansen - stories come to life.”

“The fortress of Suomenlinna is a UNESCO's World Heritage Site and located on a group of islands in Helsinki. Take the ferry from Kauppatori and enjoy the beautiful historical fortress and walk around the islands stone pavements which take you back in time. Have a nice picnic on the grassy shire-like hills on the southern side of the island or have a lunch or refreshing beverage in one of the local restaurants.”

“ Half-naked people like to enjoy the sun in the Tavrichesky Garden. This is the park for ordinary people to come and take a short stroll, while fitness freaks go jogging. Once it belonged to Grigory Potemkin, the favourite lover of Catherine the Great. Red Mountain, the raised terrace and cafe, is marvellous for sun lovers, and the kebabs are great. The park also contains a bright spot: The Tavricheskiy Palace (closed to the public) held the first State Duma (parliament) meeting in 1906, as did the Petrograd Soviet following the February revolution in 1917. Lenin's statue has been removed and replaced by Russian poet Sergei Yesenin.”

“Very nice resturant on top of a hill, with a lovely view of Oslo. Even if you choose not to dine here, its a very nice walk up the trail and steps from Gamlebyen, just to enjoy the view. You can also just have a coffe or a drink at the resturants outside terrace. And also this is the start of the walk up to the Sculpture park of Ekeberg.”
