“Check out the tides and try to go on a summer evening when the other visitors have left and it’s just you and the singing seals on the beach in front of the church by ST Cuthbert’s island.”

“Great views from the top and lovely woodland walks around the back. Opposite to Penshaw you also have the lovely Herrington Park with several walks that zig zag their way around the site. There are 2 cafes located nearby, one near to the monument on the road you park on and the other one in Herrington Park itself, where you’ll also find public toilets which are pretty decent! ”

“Enjoy an invigorating walk up to recently restored Fatlips Castle, used by Borders Reivers, the Turnbulls from 1300 through 1600s. Fatlips sits atop Minto Crags looking out over Teviotdale, Ruberslaw Hill and towards the English Border. The Castle is kept locked but you can get the key (£10 deposit for key of which £5 is returned when you take the key back) from Oliver’s garage in Denholm. Make sure to note the detailed map instructions on Castle website and wear good shoes and stout trousers from nettles and rocks.”
