The famous haunted Allen House is a beautiful southern Victorian mansion. It is situated at the crest of the North Main street hill, nested behind a beautiful magnolia tree and original iron fence. The home has been featured on five national TV shows and many newspapers, radio, magazines, and news channels. It is the subject of Mark Spencer's book, A HAUNTED LOVE STORY, THE GHOSTS OF THE ALLEN HOUSE. It is a private residence only open occasionally for tours, dinners, and overnight guests.
You will be staying in the Master Suite. The suite contains two large bedrooms and a bathroom with clawfoot tub and shower. The larger room has a king bed and the slightly smaller room has a queen bed. Bathroom is attached to smaller room and also has door to hallway.
Monticello is a small Southern town. If you can find Walmart then you have found everything. Seriously, the Allen House is the main attraction. Need more to entertain you? You can catch a movie at the theater just down from Walmart or hit the bowling lanes just down the street the other direction from Walmart. There's also a relatively new skating rink somewhere. I haven't been there. In the summer you can find a city pool in City Park and a splash pad in Jackson Park. Most people use Monticello as a home base for other travel to places like Little Rock, Memphis, Monroe, or even New Orleans. This is where you come to escape a populous city. There's a new public library just up the road and Main Street is a great place to take an evening stroll. Expect to relax. Don't expect high-end entertainment.
