Museum
“Museum Van Loon, the former house of the regent Van Loon family, is situated in the heart of the Amsterdam Canals. It is in fact an impressive patrician house like many in the center of Amsterdam. This is your unique chance of entering such a house, still privately owned by the aristocratic Van Loon family, which about thirty years ago decided to open it to the public.”

Recommend for kids as well as there is a special part to see how the kids were living in the orphanage. Did you know that back in the days the water in Amsterdam was not drinkable and people also kids were drinking beer to flush their bite. ”

“The Torture Museum is located at Singel 449 in the heart of the city, near the flower market overlooking the Singel canal. It is reachable by public transport via trams 1, 2 or 5 to Centraal Station. The museum is open daily from 10 AM until 11 PM. Admission is €7.50 for adults and €4 for children. The museum is multilingual, with information provided in English, Dutch, French, German, Italian, and Spanish.Fittingly, the layout of the Torture Museum is of a maze of small, dark rooms. Often listed amongst the “world's most unusual museums”, it features a theatrical atmosphere, which lightens what would otherwise be a rather somber mood. Each room displays one or two torture devices...”

“Dating from the early 14th century, this enclosed former convent is a peaceful haven, with tiny houses and postage-stamp gardens around a well-kept courtyard off Gedempte Begijnensloot. Within the hof (courtyard) is the charming 1671 Begijnhof Kapel, and the Engelse Kerk, built around 1392. Also here is the Houten Huis, the Netherlands' oldest preserved wooden house, dating from around 1465. There’s another entrance to the Begijnhof near this structure: look for a wooden door on the Spui’s north side, east of the American Book Center. The Beguines, a Catholic order of unmarried or widowed women who cared for the elderly, lived a religious life without taking monastic vows. The last Beguine died in 1971.”
