Dublin City: gisting
Position, Position, Position. The best spot for sight-seeing, cafes, shopping & the night life of Dublin! You are literally at the Spire on O'Connell St. The bedsit is the perfect base from which to explore Dublin. Featuring keyless, digital entry, 24/7 check in, the apartment has all you need. Including a double bed, instantaneous shower, plus microwave, toaster & kettle. It's on the second floor, Cable TV & fast wifi. Great position and very experienced company run by super hosts!
For light to early sleepers: Due to it's central location, there can be some street noise, so bringing some ear plugs may be advisable. Paper towels are not provided - this is a choice for the environment and the future. We do not supply face cloths, sorry - our linen company does not stock them. Recently renovated, with a small bathroom but the benefits of an instant shower, and kitchenette including kettle, toaster, microwave, fridge, plates, utensils, cutlery etc. Like all of our apartments, this has all a traveler needs to 'live like a local', in style, and see the sights, without having to take public transport everywhere, or to hire a car. Like your own hotel room! Shower might not suit very tall people.......
The neighbourhood is vibrant and lively and has some fantastic restaurants near by. The area has recently included the Luas tram line which is only steps away from the accommodation. Please check our recommendations in the home manual!

In a historic Georgian terrace only a short walk from restaurants, supermarkets; pubs; cafes; it's cosy fit out is superbly rounded off by it's convenient proximity to the major attractions.
    - The apartment is on the third floor, but there is no lift in the building. - Light or early sleepers should bring ear plugs due to some street noise caused by weekends revelers returning home late. - Paper towels are not provided - this is a choice for the environment and the future. - We do not supply face cloths, sorry - our linen company does not stock them. - A bathroom and kitchen, with the benefits of an electric, instant shower and all you need to cook, including kettle, toaster, hob, fridge and pots, pans and trays. Like all of our apartments, this has all a traveler needs to 'live like a local' and see the sights, without having to take public transport everywhere, or to hire a car........
The apartment is perfectly located for exploring the city; all of the city's cultural institutions are within walking distance and the transport connections are excellent NORTHSIDE CULTURAL ATTRACTIONS The North side of Parnell Square is home to the city's Hugh Lane Gallery of Modern Art; we share a significant collection of Impressionist painting with the Tate Gallery in London, part of the Hugh Lane Bequest, which is rotated in seven-year cycles. Next door is the Writer's Centre, and next door again, is the Writer's Museum, with a Michelin-starred restaurant in the basement, the amazing Chapter One. Down on the East side of Parnell Square is the beautiful jewel-box that is the Gate Theatre - part of the 18th-century entertainment complex established by the entrepreneurial Dr. Bartholomew, to help support his new Rotunda Maternity Hospital (the oldest purpose-built such hospital in the world, and still delivering babies on a daily basis, 270 years later (9000 is 2012). In general, shopping hours are 9.30-6pm, with late-night shopping till 8pm on Thursdays. Sunday opening is from noon. BREAKFAST The Kingfisher Café, a no-frills 'caff' on the corner of Parnell Square and Parnell Street West is good for breakfast, with friendly and efficient service. Good value, and good fish and chips later in the day. The Old Music Store on North Frederick Street, a few blocks South of us, does a good Irish breakfast in comfortable surroundings. Dunne's Stores, is the indigenous supermarket and department store chain, and has branches in every sizeable town throughout the country. There are two local branches. In North Earl Street, opposite O’Connell Street’s Spire, the Off-Licence (liquor store) is in a separate premises, a few doors apart - look for the James Joyce statue. You will find a bigger branch in the ILAC Shopping Centre, flanked by Henry Street, Moore Street and Parnell Street West (Moore Street entrance is opposite Paris Bakery).

Gardiner House is located in a beautiful historical building. It has been completely renovated to a high standard though it still retains its originality and charm. A former 200-years-old convent with its own Victorian chapel converted into a backpacker hostel for travelers from all over the world to meet and mingle. Our aim is to make your stay in Dublin as comfortable and enjoyable as possible, making you feel at home away from home, while providing a high-quality service at a budget price.
Each floor comes with its own wi-fi router – free wi-fi thought the whole building, and the shared rooms are equipped with all you need to ensure a comfy stay: fresh bed linen are included; power outlets for each bed; little reading lights and individual lockers underneath the bunks to lock up your valuables – bring your own padlock – otherwise padlocks, adapters and big shower towels can be purchased at reception. Hairdryers, iron, boarding games are available to borrow as well 😊 All rooms are bright and spacious and cleaned daily, each floor has multiple bathrooms, which are cleaned four times a day to ensure a high-quality standard of cleanliness.

The listing is a lovely, modern, log cabin in a secluded spot located in the back garden of a fine suburban house in south Dublin. Free on street parking is available immediately outside the main residence. The listing is suitable for couples or solo travellers. There are no particularly strict house rules; all we ask is that you respect the property just as you'd like your own home to be respected. There is one cat in residence at the property.
Lilac Cottage is a self contained, double bedroom, shower room, full working kitchen and living area with TV/DVD.
Kimmage is a lovely, settled neighbourhood. Several good restaurants are within walking distance as are shops, pubs, parks, and a gym, yoga and pilates. It also has an excellent bus service which will bring you into the city centre in around 20 minutes.

Great neighbourhood close to Stonybatter, Guinness Storehouse and Phoenix park. Dublin has always been renowned for its restaurants and cafes and the early part of the Eighteenth century was no exception. On the eastern side of Essex Bridge, in the vicinity of the Custom House a coffee- house called the Cocoa Tree was located. In the recess between the bridge and the Custom House there was a ‘chop house’, known as “Old Sot’s Hole”. This establishment had the reputation of having the best steaks and ale in Dublin. The owner of this chop house was a Mr. Thretford. His golden rule was he never gave any credit to anyone, even the very wealthy. He died in 1742. The chop house still flourished. At a meeting held there in 1757, it was decided that the passage leading from the bridge to Essex Street was too narrow and after discussion, money was given to a Mr Bristow, a Commissioner of the Revenue, for the widening of this passage. Subsequently, a Bill was passed that all the narrow alleys in the City of Dublin, were to be widened. Houses had to be demolished for this work to proceed and certain room keepers and lodgers felt that they should have been given at least six months notice of this fact. Fourteen Bills of Injunction were filed and the authorities decided to react. The roofs of the houses of those who had filed the injunctions were removed in the middle of the night. Panic ensued and people ran into the streets, not knowing what had happened. In 1762, Parliament granted £12,000 for the purchase of all houses, preventing the street widening, from their owners. The street widening was carried out and the new street was called Parliament Street. In 1763, the Corporation of Weavers and other dealers in silk submitted a petition Parliament informing them that there were only fifty silk looms working, where previously there had been eight hundred looms, and asking them for assistance. The Parliament made grants available, to establish a public warehouse, where silken goods, manufactured in Ireland only, would be sold. A house was found for this purpose in Parliament Street and would be used by the wholesale and retail trade. This building was called the Hibernian Silk Warehouse and was officially opened in February 1765. All the wealthy and fashionable ladies flocked there to buy their produce and the silk trade in Dublin received a great boost as a result. The main traders in Parliament Street at this time were wool and textile merchants. A General Thomas Russell, who was banished to the Continent as a result of his support of the United Irishmen, returned to Ireland in the early 1800’s. He was arrested on the 9th September 1803, on the second floor of number 28, Parliament Street. £1,500 had been offered for his capture. He was tried at Downpatrick and executed on the 2nd October 1803. The merchants of Dublin presented a petition to Parliament for a section of land to build an Exchange. This building was to be a meeting place for merchants and traders. This petition was granted and the foundation stone of the Exchange was laid on the 2nd August 1769. The completion of this building took ten years and was finally opened in 1779. Rather than being used by the merchants, the Exchange became a place where public and political meetings were held. During 1798 it was converted into a military depot and court martials were held there. On the 13th of January 1800, Daniel O’Connell made his first public speech against the union with Britain, there. People who were deemed to be part of the revolutionary movement were punished in the Exchange. The public came to view these punishments being doled out. In 1814, a crowd had assembled in the Exchange for the whipping of a culprit. The balustrade in front gave way, nine people were killed and many were badly injured. In September 1852 the Exchange changed its purpose for the final time; it was inaugurated as the City Hall of the Corporation of Dublin.

The house is in the Liberties which is one of Dublin’s oldest and most fascinating areas which is a short walking distance to many historical attractions such as Christchurch Cathedral, Teelings Whiskey Distillery, Jameson Distillery, Guinness Storehouse, St. Patrick's Cathedral and Kilmainham Gaol. There are also many café’s, restaurants and bars around the area as well as the house being located just off Francis Street which is known as Dublin’s main Antique street. Meath Street is at the other end of my street which is home to the famous Liberty Market (Thursday-Saturday) and many shops and eateries. There is also a flea market which takes place in Newmarket Square on the last Sunday of every month and this would take approximately 5 minutes to reach by foot. This area is very popular with tourists considering its history and how centrally located it is, it really is a perfect location if you are looking to visit and experience all of what this great city has to offer.

Portobello came into existence as a small suburb south of the city of Dublin in the 18th century, centred on Richmond St. During the following century it was completely developed, transforming an area of private estates and farmland into solid Victorian red-bricked living quarters for the middle classes (on the larger streets), and terraced housing bordering the canal for the working classes. As a fast-expanding suburb during the 19th century Portobello attracted many upwardly-mobile families whose members went on to play important roles in politics, the arts and the sciences. Towards the end of the century came an influx of Jews, refugees from pogroms in Eastern Europe, which gave the name "Little Jerusalem" to the area.

The apartment is minutes’ walk from O'Connell Street, the main artery of Dublin's Northside and a great place to start exploring the city. Named in honour of the 19th-century Irish Independence leader, Daniel O’Connell, whose statue looks over the street, here you’ll find not only a wide range of shops (with lots of outstanding souvenirs if you need to buy presents!), bars and restaurants, but also the key to everything: a well-equipped tourism office where you can get maps, guides to Dublin and other detailed information, as well as timetables and price lists for museums and tours. O’Connell Street is a good starting point from which to feel the pulse of the city, before diving into its narrow streets or taking advantage of the bus routes which start here to take little day trips to places in the outskirts of the city. At the end of this street you’ll find yourself right by the Spire of Dublin, officially called the ‘Monument of Light’, an extraordinary conical sculpture 120 metres tall, which was unveiled in 2003. Location along restaurant and bar strip, Dorset Street, is less than 20 minutes walk to all attractions: IFSC, O'Connell St, Trinity College, Temple Bar, Croke Park!
