“The Columbus lighthouse is a monument located in Santo Domingo East about 20-25 min from Boca Chica. It was built in tribute to Christopher Columbus whose remains peacefully rest in there. It's architecture reflects a cross-shape beam of light that represents the christianization of the Americas. This monument is both a mausoleum and a museum showcasing objects including a boat from Cuba and colombian jewelry”

“The Dominican Amber Museum is one of the most visited places in Puerto Plata. Inside, it hosts one of the biggest resin exhibitions in the Dominican Republic. The country has the most important amber deposits in the world; moreover, blue, green or warm honey colours are unique from this area due to its volcanic activity. Here, you can discover the history of this vegetal-origin precious stone. One of the most important stones of this museum is a 40cm lizard conserved inside a piece of amber. This resin can hold prehistoric fossils of plants and little animals on its inside due to its sticky nature, that turns this stone in subject of study. It is said that Steven Spielberg was inspired by this museum when he was working on his famous film Jurassic Park ”

“El Mundo King in Sosua on the north coast of the Dominican Republic is incredibly difficult to accurately describe, but in a nutshell it is a museum of Haitian / Caribbean art. But it’s so much weirder than that. Upon arriving at what is a residence turned castle-museum you are automatically impressed by an out of this world facade of towers and alien writings. From there, things begin to get really interesting…”

“General Gregorio Luperón House Museum, in Puerto Plata, is one of the most visited and beautiful places in the Dominican Republic, because there, it is conserved the legacy and work of the Dominican national hero. The museum is located in a victorian-style building. Inside, you can discover General Gregorio Luperón origins and story, thanks to the numerous photos and personal objects that the museum possesses. The life and times of native-born son and independence leader Gregorio Luperón are impressively fleshed out inside this beautifully restored, pale-green, Victorian-era building. Photographs and period artifacts trace Luperón's life, from humble beginnings to his role as provisional president during the 'Restoration,' as well as the story of Puerto Plata during the late-19th century. Staff are knowledgeable and enthusiastic ”

“The fortress has great historical importance for the country, since in it, in addition to pronouncing Santiago in favor of independence, the first Dominican flag was raised on March 6, 1844. It was built in 1804, although in wood, to be rebuilt in 1874 with bricks and other more resistant materials. ”

Indoors, nine rooms showcase major educational themes ranging from the Planet Earth and ecology, to human beings, weather systems, and various aspects of Dominican culture.
