Offering elegance, history, and genuine hospitality, The Continental Hotel is southern Iowa’s premier boutique hotel. A hidden gem on the historic Centerville Square, our 18-room hotel dates to 1866. We have hosted a number of famous historical figures including Booker T. Washington and Carrie Nation. Today, the hotel is operated as a social enterprise by the Morgan E. Cline Foundation. Any profits go towards supporting the foundation’s mission to foster a thriving Appanoose County, Iowa.
Each of our rooms is uniquely decorated and we offer a number of different room types perfect for solo travelers or groups. Please note that this apartment is not in the main body of the hotel. It has a separate entrance with its own parking garage.
The Continental Hotel is a landmark on the Centerville Square, which is recognized as a national historic district. Self-billed as "The World's Largest Square," it is lined with locally-owned shops and restaurants. Local festivals, like Pancake Day, are still celebrated on the square year-round.
