“The Fort: Nature that gave the settlers of Rhode Island one of the finest natural harbors in the world, Narragansett Bay, also presented them with a military challenge. Part of the challenge was to prevent an enemy fleet from entering the bay to attack friendly ships or cities along the shore. Another part was to prevent an enemy from seizing the bay to use it for a base of operations. Tours daily or just a great place to walk and take in the views. President Dwight D. Eisenhower's house is here. Sail Newport is here, this is where the International Volvo Race arrives and departs from. And the Newport Jazz and Folk Festivals every year!”

“During its years of active service, Fort Adams housed generations of soldiers. Now the Fort is open to tours, and offers spectacular views of the bay and a wealth of history for enthusiasts. Bay Walks begin at the Fort and take visitors along the picturesque East Passage of Narragansett Bay with unobstructed views of the sun setting over Conanicut Island or to the east side of the bay, overlooking Newport Harbor and the downtown waterfront as well as picturesque Brenton Cove – one of the area’s most popular anchorages.”
