Sögufrægur staður
“Situated in Piazza Bra, the amphitheatre of Verona was built in the first half of the 1st century A.D. (between the end of Augustus‘ reign and the beginning of Claudius). After the Colisseum and the Capuan amphitheatre, the Arena is the third largest of its kind in Italy. Its elliptical shape enhances the acoustic quality of the performances and also allows seating-space for thousand of spectators.”

“Discover the old Nice, Another must-see attraction in Nice is its old town with its shaded alleys, colorful facades and typical Mediterranean shutters. It is impossible to talk about old Nice without referring to “Cours Saleya, where the famous flower market and market is held almost every morning (except on Mondays). On Monday mornings, “Cours Saleya” turns into a large open-air flea market! It is also the ideal place to have a drink or eat a meal at a table on one of the many terraces. When you visit the old Nice, we also recommend that you see: - The courthouse square - Rossetti Square and its glaciers - Saint-Francois Square and its small fish market It is also possible to go through the old Nice to reach the hill of the Castle, about which we speak below.”

“Alright, this is not the French Riviera anymore, it's about a 2 hour drive. But if your stay on the Riviera is long enough and you have time to go here, it's absolutely worth it. Basically, this place is a paradise for nature lovers. I go there several times every summer. Here's a non-exhaustive list of things that you can do here: 1) Kayak / Pedal boat in the Gorges du Verdon. This gorge is insanely beautiful but during peak summer, there are just way too many people and it degrades the experience. 2) Lavender fields. If you're thinking of particularly famous lavender field pictures, they were probably taken here, on the Plateau de Valensole, above the Sainte-Croix lake. But the period to see them starts from mid-June until mid-July. After mid-July, you won't see many of them. And none the rest of the year. 3) Moustiers-Sainte-Marie village. It's a very cute village which is on the list of the 150 most beautiful villages in France. 4) La route des crêtes, meaning the "Ridge road". This road is very impressive, and watch out if you're scared of heights! It's a loop that follows the cliffs of the Verdon gorge where there are world-renowned climbing spots. There are several breathtaking viewpoints along it.”

“Purchased in 1550 by Cosimo I de Medici and by his wife Eleonora of Toledo to transform it into the new grand-ducal residence, Palazzo Pitti soon became the symbol of the consolidated power of the Medici over Tuscany. Palace of two other dynasties, the Habsburg-Lorraine (successors of the Medici from 1737) and of the Savoys, who inhabited it as royal of Italy since 1865, Palazzo Pitti still bears the name of its first owner, the Florentine banker Luca Pitti, who in the mid-fifteenth century wanted to build it - perhaps designed by Brunelleschi - beyond the Arno, at the foot of the Boboli hill.”
