We invite you to enjoy the rustic charm of our quaint off-grid, solar and generator powered mountain cabin nestled just outside the Indian Peaks Wilderness and Brainard Lake Recreation Area in the Colorado Rocky Mountains. This 1,100 square foot mountain home is a short scenic drive west of Boulder, Colorado just off the Peak-to-Peak Highway above the historic mining town of Ward, CO. The cabin sits at approximately 9,500 ft., is south facing, with a large front porch featuring log truss framework and hand-crafted draw knife log rails. It is located off a county dirt road, providing winter access (4-wheel drive strongly recommended in winter months), situated on 8.5 acres of lodge pole, limber and aspen forest. There are two other Airbnb tiny houses on the property: one is 25 yards away (just off of the driveway near the back steps of the cabin) and the other is out of sight down the road 100 yards.

Our cabin provides a wonderful retreat from the work-a-day world of the city no matter the time of year. Let the serenity of a glorious spring sunrise greet you as you sip your morning tea or coffee in a rocker on the front porch. Enjoy the cool mountain breeze as you escape the city’s summer heat. Cozy up to the warmth of a wood burning fireplace to chase away the first hint of autumn’s chill. Feel the exhilaration of a fresh snowfall as you snowshoe or cross-country ski through the snow-laden pines.

Play all day in Indian Peaks Wilderness, Brainard Lake Recreation Area, Estes Park, Rocky Mountain National Park or any of the dozens of nearby attractions and then retire to this peaceful haven where you can rock away your cares on the front porch, unwind and enjoy the wild life, including hummingbirds, chipmunks, ground squirrels, woodpeckers, Steller’s Jays, and the occasional deer or moose.

The cabin features a large front south facing porch with a dining area, plenty of rocking chairs, and a relaxing porch swing. In summer and fall, enjoy the intimate outdoor “living area” including Adirondack chairs encircling an outdoor fire pit (fire pit use subject to local fire bans and host restrictions).

The cabin layout provides an open living room, dining area and a fully equipped kitchen. Sleeping accommodations (up to 12) include: one private bedroom with a double bed, an upstairs loft with two twin beds and a queen bed. Please realize this sleeping loft is open to the living space below. It is not a closed off bedroom/sleeping area. The living room couch has a pull-out bed for two and our enclosed side porch has two twin beds (for spring through fall porch sleeping). We also have two cots which can be set up. The mudroom has space for setting up a queen-size air mattress to sleep another two people or you can bring the two twin mattresses in off the uninsulated side porch during the colder months. The bathroom includes a claw-foot tub, a stand-alone shower, sink with vanity, and a private toilet.

Amenities: wood burning rock fireplace, flat screen TV, DVD player, WiFi, claw foot tub for two, outdoor grill, outdoor fire pit, numerous board games, Lincoln logs, Tinker Toys, Mexican dominoes, and playing cards.

Whether you are seeking a romantic getaway for two or a fun get-together with family or friends, this cozy, yet comfortable cabin provides the ambience, relaxation and amenities to accommodate most types of gatherings. It serves as the perfect home base while you explore the area’s incredible recreational, entertainment and historical offerings. There is truly something for everyone right in the vicinity.

Please do not rely on GoogleMaps for directions. Our cabin is in the forest off of a dirt road and GoogleMaps does not recognize the road. I recommend MapQuest and will send you a link to your email and to your cell phone.

We cannot guarantee perfect delivery of Wifi service at our cabin as our provider, ViaSat, provides "best-effort delivery". This describes service in which there is no guarantee that data is delivered or that delivery meets any quality of service.

The use of the outdoor fire pit is subject to local fire bans and/or host restrictions. Your booking with us does not automatically include use of the outdoor fire pit.

We do not allow extra day guests, overnight guests or additional vehicles during guest stays.

I am a semi-native Coloradan – having migrated over 30 years ago from Iowa. I enjoy hiking, backpacking, fishing, lake kayaking, camping and cross country skiing. I spend a lot of time at my mountain house relaxing and enjoying the great outdoors. It serves as a really good "base camp" with close proximity to various attractions and recreational activities. I am NEVER bored. I create hand-made rustic home accents, furnishings and fixtures from local forest materials gathered on hikes. I also love to entertain friends and family, read, watch movies, visit various museums, learn about history, travel, nutrition, religion, and self-development. Two of my favorite quotes are: "Chance favors the prepared mind" and "Persistence is omnipotent". My husband, Lindsey, and I really enjoy meeting and visiting with new acquaintances locally, when we host and when we travel. We are both really friendly and talkative and love to help others feel welcomed and comfortable when we are hosting. As travelers, we love to engage with locals and really learn the ins and outs of a place, exploring those places "off the beaten path". Likewise, we love to share our knowledge of our neck of the woods and to serve as a great resource to visitors.
