Whitefield, Maine, Bandaríkin

Whitefield is becoming known as the Mecca of Maine's agritourism industry. The Sheepscot General store is down the road, the town's central gathering place, where you can get anything you want, including fresh organic produce, homemade bagels everyday, locally-made cheese, fresh duck, even kimchi, and wi-fi. Friday night is pizza night and often there's live music or other entertainment. (It is closed on Mondays.)
Coastal beaches within hour's drive. Wonderful clamming at Reid State Park. And there are big lakes nearby.
Hidden Valley Nature Center 10-15 minutes away, 25 miles of trails.
Bikes and canoe available for your use at my house next door.
This is a farming community. Fresh eggs, milk, butter, grass-fed beef, veggies and herbs, available at neighbors' . Dairy and vegetable and sheep, alpaca and llama and pig farms on the road, and even a golf course .
Great swimming, biking, and walking
Blackberry bushes right next to the trailer.
Some Amish families moved into town. Horse and buggies go past the trailer.
Abundant wildlife: eagles, otter, deer,
and not so wild pigs, cows, alpacas, and llamas

DIRECTIONS: Natasha's address is:
538 Town House Rd, Whitefield, ME 04353
GPS takes you to wrong driveway, so follow these directions:

This is one route you can take from Portland:
GPS tells you to take 295 through Portland, not the maine turnpike, and get off at 126/9. follow 126 east thru gardiner, across Kennebec river, right on 27, left on 126.
about 8-10 miles, 126 goes around a sharp corner at the catholic church. go down the short hill and take a right onto townhouse road. (it's before the whitefield school, if you miss the turn)
go about 2 miles and you will see a handicapped adult sign and an egg-seller on the right and a big yellow house on your left. Turn into the next grassy driveway on your left, 524 townhouse rd. across from a big metal gate on the righthand side of street. It has a no trespassing sign on the tree. reflective markers, and is located just in front of handicapped adult sign.
I live at the next left driveway 538 across from a brown and white garage and derelict house. You can stop in or go directly to the trailer.

BUT this is the route I take from Portland:

I always go this way, but recommend it only during the day.
It is slightly faster, more complex, and much prettier than getting off at the Gardiner exit.
Take 295 through Portland, not the maine turnpike,
get off 295 at the Richmond exit, go east (right) til you hit the Kennebec river, turn left for about 1/4 mile, then take a right and cross over the river. Following 197

go straight until you have to take a left or right.

take a left on 197 and go to end, (this is Dresden mills)

then take a right on 27 (there is a little restaurant on the corner and a gas station/store on other side of street. Then take immediate left onto blinn hill rd. after the store

take it to the end(stay left at the big curve).

turn left onto nash rd/Thayer rd.

go to end

take right on 194

go about 2 miles til you see big white church (in kings mills section of whitefield) and turn left onto townhouse rd.

I live about two miles down on the right

number 538.

across from brown and white garage and derelict white house.
the trailer is the next grassy driveway on the right, number 524.
just before a handicapped adult sign ( and an egg-seller on the left and a big yellow house on your lright). On the left is a big metal gate.
you can stop at my house first, or call or go directly to the trailer, no need to sign in. don't worry about calling or coming by at any hour.
(if you take route through Wiscasset, traffic is often backed up for miles) but you can take rte 1 north from Brunswick to bath to Wiscasset, turn left on 218, go about 20 minutes north.
218 will go right and 194 will go straight. take 194 straight, then turn immediate right at the big church, onto townhouse rd, and go about 2 miles. my house on right, 538, and next driveway on right, is the trailer.

Portland is 65 minutes south of here, so if you want to go there, I would recommend you stop there on the way here and on the way back. Reid State park is my favorite ocean park because it has warmer lagoon swimming and clamming and is 50 min away. Popham Beach is my second favorite. it's actually even more beautiful. and nearer is Pemaquid Beach. great hiking near Camden, real mountains, though small. good lobsters on the coast in round pond, New Harbor, Damariscotta, Orr's Island, lighthouse and museum in Pemaquid. Rockland has lots of stores, museums, galleries, waterfront, restaurants, and is 45 min away, and 10 min from Camden mountains. etc. and Whitefield has great hiking trails along the river, wonderful private swimming in the river, bikes, state park with big lake 10 min away, and the best little soulful country store in the state, where you can buy anything and eat from 7-6, Sundays until 5, and Mondays it's closed. At Hidden Valley conservation there are miles of hiking trails and you can rent a canoe to paddle and swim in a beautiful lake. The Botanical Garden in Boothbay is world class!
And much much more.

I'm a well-known painter, who lives next door, through the woods. An organic gardener, I raise all the vegetables I eat during the year, and tend my flower gardens and fruit trees. I have been gradually fixing up this trailer for my grown children to use when they visit. This is the first time I've offered it to others.

I'm available next door if you need help. I've got wifi in my house and a landline, if you need them, and lots of suggestions for what to do and where to go.
