Northside of UC Campus (east of Oxford St) is a delightful neighborhood even if you have no need to walk to campus in 6 minutes. A wonderful location. The artistically furnished townhome is a spacious 1055 sq ft (100 sq meters) on 2 floors.

Eignin
This Mediterranean-style townhome is located on the near Northside of the UC Campus - east of Oxford street - a much sought-after Berkeley location. Walk to Euclid Avenue restaurants, coffee houses and stores in 5 minutes and Shattuck Avenue "Gourmet Ghetto" in 10 minutes.

The space: The townhome is spacious (1055 sq ft or 100 sq meters), fully furnished, including a hair dryer and a rice cooker (!) and artistically decorated. Some really special interior lighting in the living room (c/o our friendly electrician) adds some drama and a little fun.

Virginia Street is quiet and peaceful (at the foot of “Holy Hill" with several seminary schools. The townhome is set back in a flagstone courtyard away from the street. Downstairs is open-plan, featuring a stylish fully-equipped kitchen with an unusual seamless granite countertop, custom tile work, dishwasher, microwave, etc. and a good selection of cooking equipment and utensils. The living/dining room is comfortable with a large sofa. The downstairs bathroom includes a Bosch washer and dryer. Lots of custom character throughout such as crown molding and indirect low voltage “mood” lighting as well as LED.

As you go upstairs, you will notice the etched glass work and designer tile work inlaid in the wooden stairs.

The upper floor has two bedrooms, each with a private en suite bathroom with shower. Skylights in bathrooms and the upper hallway add lots of light. There are glass desks in both bedrooms, plus there is a third desk downstairs in a nook beneath the stairs. Lots of bedroom closet and kitchen cupboard space.

The floors are hardwood throughout, except for the bathrooms which feature designer tile floors. The townhome is ideal for one or two couples or a family. The walls adjoining the adjacent townhomes are insulated with sound-reducing and environmentally-friendly recycled denim fiber and green glue (yes! green glue). While the sound is damped down, the walls are obviously not totally 100% soundproof (sound does carry through open windows, so your neighbors will appreciate it if you are quiet), but the engineered sound proof walls and laminated glass windows do deaden much of the outside sound.

The townhome has high-speed internet (50 megs/sec), Comcast cable with 137 channels - of which 45 are Spanish - and a ‘smart” TV!

The Neighborhood: You are just one block from Euclid Avenue with a selection of stores, cafes, sandwich shops, and coffee houses. For foodies, Berkeley’s famed Gourmet Ghetto on Shattuck Avenue and Walnut Square (the location of the original first Peets Coffee) are a 10-minute walk away, featuring iconic dining experiences such as Alice Waters’ Chez Panisse and the Cheeseboard Pizza Collective.
Access: The north gate of the Berkeley Campus is just a few blocks away – a delightful and easy stroll along tree-lined streets. Also various buildings of the Pacific School of Religion are dotted around “Holy Hill” – again a few minutes walk away.

You can walk to downtown Berkeley and the BART station (Bay Area Rapid Transit system). Twenty minutes driving will take you to San Francisco across the Bay Bridge (outside of rush hours!), or it’s 20 minutes via BART. Driving to Marin County, Napa Valley and Lake Tahoe are also easy options.

Interaction: Our delightful and energetic on-site hosts Binyam and Bruk (originally from Ethiopia) know this property well. Binyam participated in building it from the foundation up. One or both of them will welcome you when you arrive and will be available during your stay by phone or e-mail to answer any questions, as I will. Otherwise, we respect your privacy; you will have the place to yourself and won’t be disturbed.

One adjacent unit is occupied mainly by university-associated visitors.

Pricing

• Our rates are all-inclusive. We pay the Berkeley business license tax, but it is not charged to you.
• Monthly discounts (for stays of 28 days or more)
• The accommodation charge includes cleaning and stocking with essential supplies before you move in. There is no separate cleaning fee.



The fine print:
• Minimum stay 14 days.
• One off-street parking space is available for you in the courtyard - for a small- to normal-size car (there is not enough space to park a huge truck or large SUV).
•No smoking of any kind in the townhome or anywhere else on the property - the front and back steps and the grounds! It's against the law: the City of Berkeley prohibits smoking anywhere in multi-unit buildings. We also prohibit vaping (e-cigarettes) because it creates many of the same issues as second-hand cigarette smoke.
• This is a quiet residential building in a serene neighborhood (beneath redwood trees) Please, no parties or loud noise!
•Sorry, no pets.

CLEANING AND DISINFECTING BEFORE YOU CHECK IN

Our apartments undergo a deep cleaning and disinfection before and after every guest, using the CDC guidelines. Additionally, we have acquired a BioSpray Surface Cleaner and Sanitizer system and will use that in the apartment in addition to the CDC-standard cleaning. You can look up BioSpray, but here’s a quote from their website:

“The quick-drying BioSpray D2 removes residual moisture from surfaces and is recommended for use as a sanitizer on food processing equipment, dairy equipment, food utensils, dishes, silverware, glasses, sink tops, countertops, refrigerated storage, and display equipment and other hard nonporous food contact surfaces. Lab calibrated spray-and-shoot technology for more effective coverage, reaching inside even the smallest cracks and crevices, with better results than manual sprayers or wipes.”

Also
“BioSpray D2 is a combination of isopropyl alcohol and a powerful quaternary ammonium compound.” It is a hospital-grade disinfectant and is “included on EPA list of disinfectants for use against SARS-COV-2 (Search EPA# 73232-1).”
