TWO BEDROOMS, each with a king bed, and separate entrances on the ground floor of the Treehouse. Above is a shared kitchen and hangout spot, and a wrap-around deck with 360° jungle views.

The Treehouse is a Hawaiian style cabin built with screens in place of windows, with an in-the-jungle feel.

Ekaha Village is a one-acre family-geared self-retreat space and ecovillage. We love hosting families and children, and anyone looking for a peaceful jungle experience in community.

Eignin
Welcome to Ekaha Village, a micro-ecovillage and retreat space situated on an acre of Hawaiian jungle.

We’re a family of four, including two children, a three and one-year old. We value raising free people, shared integrated parenting, learning and restoring ancestral wisdom and practices, and intentionally participating in our physical environments and community. We value visible intergenerational living, supporting mothers, not hiding them. We stand against systems of oppression by taking personal responsibility for our participation in them, and then creating and living in new systems of resonance, acting from the ancient technologies of wisdom, intelligence, joy, humility, and gratitude, as opposed to the rigid structures of the dominant culture. We do this all in reverence of the sacred, living our lives as ceremony, in gratitude.

We love to host others that value these things as well.

We are building a retreat center, focusing on creating healing spaces, especially taking children into consideration of the design. We infuse our intention and values into the spaces, as well as beauty and art, and share our lived experiences with our community, so that we can learn from others and others can learn from us.

—————————————

The Treehouse, where your rooms are, is a two-story traditional Hawaiian-style single-walled house, with screens in the place of glass windows. It has two levels: the bedrooms and bathroom on the ground floor, and a community kitchen, hangout spot and wrap around deck with 360 jungle views upstairs.

Inside the bedrooms the single walls (which just means the outside wall is the same as the inside wall) in addition to the screens allow the sound of footsteps and voices from above, so if you’re sensitive to this, please don’t book. We have quiet hours from 9pm - 8am to mitigate noise from above at night.

This traditional cabin architecture also creates an intimate relationship between you and the surrounding jungle, so expect sounds of coqui frogs and crickets at night, and birds during the day. While cozy in bed, you'll feel close to the elements--soothing tropical rains and cooling breezes.

Your rooms are equipped with king-sized beds, silky-smooth bamboo sheets for cooling, stone washed linen duvet covers for warmth, a spacious walk-in closet, and a dedicated desk area with a view of the garden on each side.

The bathroom is located around the corner behind the rooms and is a shared space.

The weather here is perfect weather all year-round--70° to 80° F (21° - 27° C) during the day, dropping usually no lower than 60° F (15° C) at night. The Treehouse has extra long eaves, which protect you from both the rain and sun. It feels cool inside, even during the day.

We're about a mile from the ocean in what real estate agents call the "sun belt" of the Puna district--we get a lot of sun during the day.

It does rain frequently here, but mainly at night. When it does rain during the day, it's like someone turned on a tap in the sky--it literally pours down for about half an hour, then abruptly stops and returns to sun. The rain is nice--a warm tropical shower.

There's myself, my wife, and our two children who reside in the village. You’ll most likely see us walking around or cooking a meal. Please say hi–we’re friendly.

The kids are 3 and 1 years old. SJ (the 3 year old) will probably ask you, and especially your kids, to play in her area on the top deck.

You can cook meals upstairs in the community kitchen. The full-size fridge inside the community room is reserved for guest usage, as is a plastic bin on the shelves next to the stove.

We’ve got a cornucopia of spices and sauces, so please flex your cooking skills! Just don’t forget to clean up–do your dishes, wipe the counters, and generally clean up after yourself.

The water here is safe and 4x filtered: a 5 micron sediment filter, 2x 5 micron carbon filters, and a UV filter. This means that all water coming from all taps, showers, and hoses is safe to drink.

We’ve also got an Enagic Kangen K8 ionizing/alkalizing water machine, which has an additional filter on top of the previously mentioned filtration system, and creates pH 9.5 drinking water super-charged with hydrogen and antioxidants. You'll taste the difference.

As mentioned before, quiet hours are from 9pm to 8am, but you’re still welcome to use the space any time day or night. We have a fully stocked tea and coffee bar to enjoy, as well.

Directly outside the kitchen is a lanai and wrap around deck, perfect for yoga (mats and cushions provided), enjoying a cup of coffee, and watching the sunrise. On a clear day you can also see both Mauna Kea and Mauna Loa from inside the Treehouse and the deck.

The ‘aina (the land) is home to over 90 fruit bearing trees: coconuts, jackfruit, ulu (breadfruit), avocado, and soursop, among others. We’ll have seasonal fruit from the land on the fruit stand for purchase, or in the community room you can enjoy for breakfast (or anytime!).

If we’re available, we can do a brief tour of the fruit trees and the structures around the acre. The trees usually have fresh coconuts so please ask and we'll open one up for you.

We've got two road bicycles and a two-seater Burley bike trailer for the children, which you're free to use if you arrange ahead of time.

The closest spot to view the ocean is about a mile down the road, 5 minutes by bicycle and 2 minutes by car. Our favorite spot is just a little further: an extensive lava cliff shoreline, which is a 20 minute bicycle ride and 10 minute drive just past Maku'u Street.

Aloha, and enjoy your stay!
