Your host, Roger aka The Blindfolded Gourmet
30 years ago, I worked for the European Gourmet magazine and was part of the duo who reviewed the top 200 restaurants in 14 countries across Europe. For the last 30 months, I have been conducting restaurant reviews throughout the South Pacific, the Caribbean and the U.S.
I lost vision in my right eye in late 2018, which inspired me to create my dream job. As The Blindfolded Gourmet, I review, with at least one local diner, chefs who are creating a buzz, whose talent is review-worthy or have appeared on my “radar.”
The angle? During the dessert course, we wear blindfolds and after taking two bites, must tell the chef each ingredient that we taste. It is a challenging undertaking for novices and professional food tasters alike. Our approach for the reviews is service-centric, drawing on my decades long expertise as a service trainer.
In March, after 20 some reviews which began in the Cook Islands in June 2019, followed by New Zealand, Australia, Fiji, Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Charlotte, Miami, Aruba, Jamaica and the US Virgin Islands, we returned to LA and had two Michelin-starred chef Wolfgang Puck in our sights.
In our sights, figuratively, of course, because the chef surprised me tableside, while blindfolded, and spoon fed me his signature “Nachtisch,” apple strudel! Final reviews for our pitch’s sizzle reel were compiled this June in French Polynesia.
I want to re-create the experience for other self-described “foodies” who are willing to relax for a 16-hour all-inclusive spa experience — replete with a 3-course dinner, breakfast, a light lunch and lavish spa services including a personally tailored full body massage.
The 16-hour couple’s package is required to be “off the grid” so expect to relinquish all electronic devices at check-in.
This is offered exclusively in our VIP Suite at Hill Manor B&B for 1-2 guests up to 3 nights. We “look” forward to “seeing” you for upcoming birthdays, a staycation or just to live how foodies “LIVE.”
