This is a family home close to the beach and a stones throw from all the amenities in Freshwater and the more alternative side of the island. An easy drive to any attraction on the Isle of Wight and a great place to stay for those that want to be close to Nature. The river Yar and old railway is close by and is a great walk to Yarmouth for bird watchers !
We are on the Tennyson trail at the bottom of the downs , below Tennyson's Cross on the cliff top

Eignin
There is a double bed and one single in a connecting room separated by a door. The adjoining bathroom /toilet is for the guests sole use .

Our home is in the idyllic far West of the island that was home to Alfred Lord Tennyson, nestled at the bottom of the downs and white chalk cliffs named after him. His house and gardens are 5 mins walk away as are the downs and a tempting walk to the Needles. Many interesting flowers are in abundance on the chalk downs.

Freshwater Bay is a 15 minute walk, as is Julia Margret Cameron the Victorian Photographers House. The house stages photography exhibitions and has a museum and tea room.

The Military Road is one of the top ten coast roads with amazing views of the famous Compton and Brook Beaches where dinosaur remains and many footprints are seen at low tide. A breath taking walk or cycle will take you there.

Freshwater offers many interesting local shops and produce. Yarmouth is a good walk along the old railway track that takes you along the river Yar, perfect for bird watchers.

Restaurants such as The Hut at Colwell Bay, the Waterfront and Beach Cafe at Totland are close by as are the local pubs that do good food in Freshwater and Yarmouth.

It is an easy drive to any attraction on the Isle of Wight .

I am a retired early years teacher and trained TEOFL teacher. I now teach English conversation on a walk and talk sight seeing basis on the Isle of Wight.
I have been a travel photographer for Insight Guides and as a result I am widely travelled.

We are dog friendly and welcome one socialised dog at £10 extra cost .
Dogs are not allowed up stairs but they can sleep in the breakfast room .
I have Two lovable friendly whippets.

I have one double room with a separate room attached with one single bed available for an extra £20 a night .There is an attached bathroom.
Our stairs are quite steep with hand rail on both sides .
Could be tricky for knee replacements !
Ideal for a couple to stay in Freshwater on the IOW the single beds are useful for children over the age of 5 as we have a pond in the garden and the two dogs .
There is a £20 pp. extra charge for the single beds.
There are footpaths onto Tennyson Down from my house and many walks and cycle trails to The Needles, Yarmouth and the whole of the national trust walks along the chalk cliffs (17 miles) to Ventnor.

The Yar estuary close by is popular with bird watchers.
The mile long old railway track runs along side the River Yar to Yarmouth, a beautiful ancient port with a castle built in 1600’s .
The busy ferry port and harbour is popular with sailors and also has boat tourist trips available to the Needles .

The Needles Breezer open air bus runs hourly to the needles , useful after a walk there along the cliffs of the Tennyson Trail to return to Freshwater.
The scenic coastal bus to Newport from Yarmouth takes in all the beautiful costal villages of West Wight .

Freshwater bay is 15 minutes walk away with opportunities to kayak swimming and paddle boarding with
West Wight water sport who are based in the bay . You can learn kayaking and paddle boarding with instructors (book in advance of your stay )

I have various sizes of wet suits available if the water is cold. The surfers beach , Compton Bay is 15 mins drive or 1 hour walk along the cliffs of the military road, voted one of the most beautiful roads in the world.
Surfing lessons can be booked through ‘ iSurf ‘ on the internet ahead of your stay

I can pick walkers up from the Yarmouth ferry as it is possible to come by train to Lymington with bicycles or spend the weekend on foot in this amazing area of outstanding beauty.
I have secure lock up for bikes and parking .

Please note, there is no food allowed in the bedrooms .
You can use the breakfast room for take aways in the evening .
There are a selection of restaurants pubs and cafes in the area of Yarmouth and Freshwater.

Please let me know dietary needs for breakfast .
There is porridge with fresh fruit , yoghurt , toast , marmalade’s , jams and cheese .
A Fresh coffee pot and tea with dairy milk or soya , almond and oat drinks. Eggs cooked as you like them , boiled , scrambled fried or omelette.

I am happy to chat with guests . We have spent a few happy evenings with those who like to relax and talk about their day .
There is no food and drink allowed in the bedrooms but they can use the breakfast room for evening take aways or just playing games and chatting
