Waikoloa Village, Hawaii, Bandaríkin

Click my profile picture BELOW to access my guide to the Island of Hawaii which is at your own risk with no recommendations as all guests are responsibility for their own due diligence and safety on the island.

5 minute walk from the property to Ho'oko park & playground with public facilities, covered picnic tables, and ocean views.

Just over a mile away from the property is Kamakoa Nui Skate Park with ocean views, lots of parking, and public restrooms.

1.5 miles away is The Village Course at Waikoloa with 18 holes of golf offering views of the coast, Mauna Loa and Mauna Kea, and Haleakala in Maui. Discounted rates with your guest card.

Next to the golf course is the pool with free access using your guest card. Large pool, kiddie pool, chairs, tables, showers, lockers, and restrooms. The saltwater/chlorine mix makes this the best aquatic center we have ever been to.

Next to the pool are the tennis courts with free access using your guest card. Reservations required.

In between the pool and tennis court is the bookmobile with some picnic tables. Interesting stop.

Next to the pool and looking out over the golf course is Johnny's, a local bar and diner open seven days a week with reasonable prices.

Less than 2 miles is Waikoloa Highlands Center with gas, groceries, eateries, salons, banking, yoga, physical therapy , chiropractor, veterinarian, and a mailbox store that also sells souvenirs. You can buy lei's inside KTA grocery store if you didn't have a chance to get any at the airport.

Less than 10 miles to Anaeho`omalu Bay where you will find Lava Lava Beach Club with a family friendly happy hour in the sand. Ping pong, lawn games, and a drink truck are hidden in a small grassy area right by the club.

The club is on a long strip of beach with great trees for hanging hammocks. Here you can swim, snorkel, scuba dive, sunbathe, kayak, paddle board, and more! Equipment rentals available right on the beach at Hawaii Ocean Sports where you can also book boat cruises and canoe rides.

Explore the historical fish ponds and trails while you are there but watch your kids because they can fall right in. There is no fence or rails in certain places along these ponds.

Heading north on foot, across the beach footbridge you will find a few beach chairs and outdoor exercise bars. Good place for sea turtle sightings. Always plenty of parking. Facilities include outdoor showers. Awesome sunsets!

On your way to A-Bay, you probably noticed the Kings' Shops on the right side which is an outdoor shopping center with restrooms, free outdoor wifi, outdoor seating areas, wall murals, koi ponds (daily fish feeding from 9:30-9:45 across from Michael Kors), general store, gas station, dining, shaved ice, and high end shopping. Tuesday Farmers Market with live music from 9am-2:30pm. Always check with the venue for current events and changes. Free petroglyph tour and live entertainment (click on my profile picture below the map to access my guidebook for more details).

Across the street is Queens' MarketPlace with free weekly hula shows on Wednesdays at 6pm in the Coronation Pavilion. See my guidebook for more events and details and always check with the venue for updates. Here you will also find Waikoloa Luxury Cinemas for dining with a movie or take out. Starbucks, Crocs, Macaroni Grill, Dairy Queen, and other stores and eateries are here also.

Head up the coast to Mauna Lani Beach (9.7 miles from room), Pauoa Bay (11 miles from room) Puako Bay (12.8 miles from room) Beach 69 (13 miles from room) Hapuna Beach (13.7 miles from room), Mauna Kea Beach (16 miles from room) Spencer Beach Park (16.1 miles from room). Note: If you are wanting to do any overnight camping, Hawaii requires you to get a Wiki permit in advance.

Waimea is 19.3 miles to the northeast from room and has the closest hospital. Anuenue Playground is a great stop with little kids but be prepared for rain, fog, and cold as you go up the mountain. Also watch out for goats alongside the road, not just on the way to Waimea but everywhere especially in rain as they like to drink the water in the middle of the road!

Head south to Kona where you can get gas and grab a quick bite at Costco food court (requires Costco card now). At the light just south of Costco off the 19 you will see a boatyard by the beach. If you drive that direction and park in the gravel lot you will see a gate where there is an easy, short trail to a historic beach but no digging in the sand here.

If you are looking for a beach playground mixture try Old Kona Airport Beach. Kamakana playground is really nice. For the best sand castles you can go to Kona Magic Sands beach. There is so much more here that you just have to get exploring and you might need to go ahead and book another trip back!
