Welcome to Meadow Brook Cottage, brought to you exclusively by Character Cottages, local specialists in stylish, Cotswold holiday rentals.

PLEASE NOTE : DESPITE HAVING THREE BEDROOMS WITH SLEEPING SPACE TO ACCOMMODATE SIX GUESTS, THE MAXIMUM OCCUPANCY HAS BEEN LIMITED TO FOUR GUESTS DUE TO SPACE CONSTRAINTS IN THE GROUND FLOOR LIVING AREA. ALL THREE BEDROOMS CAN BE MADE UP FOR A SUPPLEMENT OF £70 PER BOOKING.

Meadow Brook Cottage is an elegantly furnished Cotswold stone property which sleeps four guests, in two stylish bedrooms, with two contemporary bathrooms. Dating back to the mid-18th century, this charming terraced cottage retains wonderful traditional features including exposed beams and a Cotswold stone fireplace with a cosy wood burning stove. These period touches have been complemented by high-quality interiors and modern facilities which include wireless internet access, a Smart TV with basic Sky package, and a well-equipped kitchen. There is a large attractive garden which extends down to the tranquil brook, and free on-street parking is readily available close by.

Meadow Brook Cottage is situated in scenic Blockley, an unspoilt village which benefits from having two country pubs, a community owned village shop and café which serves delicious food during the day, a historic Norman church and a children’s playground. The peaceful Blockley Brook flows through the village centre, and there are many local walks and cycle routes to enjoy in the surrounding countryside. The brook once had 12 watermills lining its banks, bringing wealth to the area during the height of the wool industry, and one of these mills is now Mill Dene Garden, a hidden gem which is open to the public and features a misty grotto, mill pond and gorgeous flowers in bloom.

Blockley is well-placed for exploring the picturesque towns and villages of the North Cotswolds, including Chipping Campden and Stow-on-the-Wold, as well as the numerous tourist attractions the region has to offer. Batsford Arboretum, on the outskirts of Moreton-in-Marsh, has 56 acres of glorious parkland to explore, and the Cotswold Lavender Farm and Fields in Snowshill is a must-see for visitors to the area between May and August. Further afield destinations such as Stratford-upon-Avon, Oxford and Bath are also within easy reach for day trips.

Staðsetning

Upper Slaughter, England, Bretland

Blockley is a popular village in the Cotswolds which is found within a triangle formed by three renowned market towns: Chipping Campden to the North, Moreton-in-Marsh to the South East and Stow-on-the-Wold to the South. Being close to these three towns has led to increased footfall in the village, bringing with it good quality pubs and a lovely village shop/café.

As the village is away from main roads, it avoids the heavy tourist traffic and so visitors can get a real sense of rural life, enjoying the rolling countryside which falls within the Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The peaceful Blockley Brook attracts tourists and locals as a quiet place to relax in the warmer months. This brook, together with the other brook in the village, played a part in Blockley's history as there were once 12 water mills which provided work in various industries over the centuries, including silk production and flour milling.

Architecturally the village has quite a different character in comparison to the rest of the North Cotswolds as it has a more similar style to that of the villages in the Stroud valley, but here they have used a more golden stone. This design is reminiscent of wealthier times as the majority of the cottages were built during the 17th and 18th century, at the height of the industrial era.

A popular attraction in Blockley is Mill Dene Garden which is a partner garden of the Royal Horticultural Society. With a misty grotto, stream and seats around the mill pond, this is a lovely place to while away the time looking out for the kingfishers whilst enjoying a cream tea.

Food & Drink

For a relatively small village, Blockley is blessed with a number of places to eat and drink, all just a short walk from anywhere in the village.

The Crown Inn (www.crownhotelblockley.co.uk): This 16th century country inn is situated in the heart of Blockley and features a restaurant serving dishes prepared with local produce, along with a bar with an open fire and a wide selection of real ales. This honey coloured historic inn is covered in Virginia creeper which turns a stunning red in Autumn. Walk inside to the scents of wood smoke from the open log fires and snuggle into a comfy chair by the fire, to view the daily papers with a coffee or something stronger. Dinner is served in the warm and friendly restaurant with lighter meals and snacks available in the bar.
The Great Western Arms (https://www.hooky.co.uk/content/our-pubs/great-western-arms-blockley.ashx): The award winning Great Western Arms is the “Local” of Blockley. The “Western” as it is locally known, is a Hook Norton Brewery pub and is tenanted to Sharon Brace. It is right at the heart of the village both geographically and socially, and is where Sharon and her team serve up some of the finest food, drink and entertainment available. The pub has two rooms: one is used as the restaurant and the other houses a pool table, juke box and darts board (dogs are welcome in the pool room). The Pub has recently been extensively refurbished and now boasts 1st class facilities and comforts. The spacious lounge bar/restaurant retains its period "feel" but has been re-furnished and decorated with great taste and care. The atmosphere is warm, welcoming and friendly.
Blockley Village Shop & Café (blockleyshop.com): The community owned shop and café is the hub of the village. The shop offers a wide range of basic groceries and necessities, and a tempting array of local products, including farm meat and free-range eggs, daily deliveries of local fruit and veg, freshly baked bread and locally made ready meals. Logs are generally stocked in winter. The licensed café is open all day, serving breakfasts, lunches, coffees and teas, and home-baked cakes. Take-away hot and cold food, including croissants, pastries and baguettes, is also very popular. The café, where free broadband is available, is a popular meeting place for locals and visitors of all ages.
