Hello my future friend. If you’re reading this, you’re probably interested in staying at one of our mountain homes, Rebel Ridge Retreat, Harmony Hill Hideaway, Log Landing Lodge or Coyote Cliff Corner. First, let me assure you that any of these homes are a great choice. Here’s why…if you’re anything like me, you must love to travel. What I’ve learned however, is that traveling is great, but what is even more wonderful is traveling with family and friends. This is the part that makes vacations and vacationing AMAZING. When you can share your encounters and experiences with your favorite people in life, you make memories that get laughed about and enjoyed for years to come over and over. Sharing time with others is so important, I sincerely believe it’s like fertilizer for your soul. I can tell you with all sincerity, I’ve never regretted a dollar I’ve spent on vacation in my life.
Since we’re talking about vacation, here’s where my fascination with vacation all started. After high school, I was able to spend my summers at the Jersey shore by renting a room in a boarding house named “Gallaghers” in Belmar, NJ. Having stayed there consistently for several summers, I knew someday, somehow, I would fulfill my dream of owning my own beach house. I made so many friends, went to so many parties and had an incredible amount of fun during those early years. Ironically however, my most favorite memory of those days was when I invited my Mom to stay with me for a long weekend in Belmar. I must have only been about 20 years old, but boy did we have such a blast together. We laughed so much that weekend that I will never forget what a great time we shared just hanging out at the beach, going to clubs, and just doing what typical beach bums do. It didn’t matter that she was almost 30 years older than me. We simply had a blast.
Well, I grew up, got married, had children and was finally at a point when I wanted my children to be exposed to the magic of beach life. I went through the stages of packing them up and shuffling them down to beach and back home on hot summer days, but that got old real quick. That was simply exhausting for a mom with 2 kids that lived almost 2 hours from the beach. So the time finally came when I started begging my husband for a beach house. Once he finally agreed, we bought a little 3 bedroom Cape Cod style home in Seaside Heights, NJ. That was the biggest and best deal we could afford at the Jersey Shore. The home needed so much work, but the entire family pitched in and made the place look adorable. I often laugh when I think about the home, it was so small, you couldn’t even change your mind in it. My kids loved it, and so did I. Even though it was tiny and not really in a great area, it was my ‘dream-come-true’. Then hurricane Sandy hit. We lost our beach house, what a complete bummer that was. The funny thing is, even though we lost our beach house, we didn’t lose those happy memories and all the time we spent together there at the shore.
When we decided to take the gamble and rebuild our beach house, my husband and I realized that we needed more space so we could share our beach house with our family and friends. So we rebuilt, but this time, we built a 6 bedroom home that we designed with entertaining in mind! After rebuilding, here’s where my hospitality journey began and my real passion was found!
You see, it’s not what you have that’s important; it’s what you SHARE that’s important. Since my husband and I rebuilt our home at the beach, we learned that our experiences and our memories just became so much more meaningful when we began opening up our home and our hearts with our extended family and friends to share with us. We began to notice the same friends and families coming back year after year and we watched their kids grow up and talk about their experiences from when they were little and that’s when we realized that we actually had an impact on their lives. Even though it was just a vacation home to us, it was priceless memories that were being made for the other families that stayed with us. Given how much enjoyment we experienced from having a home at the beach, we decided to replicate the fun and great times we’ve shared at the shore, up in the Pocono Mountains with all its beauty and majesty that it had to offer.
I hope you find I have put a piece of my soul into each home I have furnished and decorated. Keeping along the lines of good friends, close family and fun times, I’m hopeful that you find our homes have all you need to make beautiful memories with your loved ones. Take the time to sit around the table and talk, go for a walk in the woods, roast some marshmallows or go fishing. Consider hosting a board game night when it’s pouring rain outside. Regardless of what you chose to do, the ones you do it with will always remember this “special” time you’re spending together (regardless of their age). I’ve traveled all around the world, and I have never found an area as rich in “things to do” as we have here in the Pocono Mountains. Nature is so abundant everywhere you look, and so charming, kick back, relax and breathe, you deserve it.
By now, you have a pretty good picture at whose house you’re staying at. I hope you treat our home like your favorite Aunt’s house, and I sure hope you remember to come back to see your Aunt again! :) Enjoy.
