Syracuse, New York, Bandaríkin

Tipperary Hill neighborhood on the West Side. Decked out with shamrocks and more Irish bars than you can count, this district is loaded with history, parks, festivals and the city's own Rosamond Gifford Zoo. If you happen to be in the area around St. Patrick's Day and leading up to it, this is the place to be: Green Beer Sunday at Coleman's, the annual Shamrock Run, pub crawls and much more to sport your green, orange and white pride.

Recess Coffee is now open and only 3 blocks away- The new shop has all the usual Recess favorites—coffee and espresso drinks, teas, smoothies, baked goods, sandwiches and wraps—but with an expanded food menu, including more breakfast sandwiches and baked goods.

Check out Niki's Quick Cup Diner for a fantastic breakfast, friendly service and some of the best pancakes in the city.

Start your day with something sweet at the famous Harrison Bakery. Open 6 a.m. to 8 p.m., this classic full-scale bakery has been serving up fresh donuts, cakes, cookies, breads and more since 1949. If you're looking for the best half-moon cookie, a signature Central New York sweet, add this shop to your stops.

Fresh and loaded sandwiches at one of Syracuse's favorite sandwich shops, The Brooklyn Pickle for one of their classic, piled-high sammies.

Authentic pizza and Italian food in a comfortable, family-owned restaurant — it doesn't get better than Twin Trees in Tipp Hill.

Coleman's Authentic Irish Pub. Established as a working man's saloon in 1933, this large neighborhood tavern still has the homey feel of a quaint Irish pub. Enjoy the authenticity, delicious food and fresh pints that have made this spot a long-running Syracuse landmark.

Known for their top-rated Blarney Burger, The Blarney Stone is a classic Irish pub with a comfortable and relaxed atmosphere that will keep you coming back.

Best late night lounge
Whether you want to take some brews home with you or share a few with friends at the bar, head to Now & Later, located at the former Brilbeck's Corner Market, for a huge craft beer selection available for now or later.

A friendly neighborhood establishment perfect for a late night pint, check out Wheeler's Tavern for cold beer, weekly specials and pub food.

Check out the weekly drink specials, pub grub, trivia and open mic nights at George O'Dea's Pub.

Spend the morning or afternoon strolling through the beautiful hillsides of Burnet Park. Enjoy stunning views of the city and 88 acres of lush landscape, a 492-capacity swimming pool, playgrounds, picnic areas, Monday Mile looped trailed, athletic fields and courts, and a nine-hole par-3 golf course located on the city's highest point of elevation and featuring the country's only shamrock bunker.

The highlight of family fun in the Tipperary Hill neighborhood of Downtown Syracuse is without a doubt the Rosamond Gifford Zoo at Burnet Park. Kids and adults will both enjoy over 600 species in diverse habitats ranging from the tropics to the woodlands. Open year-round, the zoo features indoor and outdoor exhibits for families to explore, including the newly expanded Asian Elephant reserve.

Bring the family to the historic "upside-down" Tipperary Hill Traffic Light — a landmark "Irish green over British red" traffic signal preserving the historical defiance of local Irish youths in the 1920s.

There's no short of options when it comes to grabbing a pint anytime, on any corner in Tipp Hill. But local favorite Nibsy's Pub is a great place to experience the old school Irish tavern charm. Known for being one of the oldest bars in Syracuse, meet up with friends and celebrate the night with a couple pints and excellent pub menu.

If you're in Syracuse in late February, head to Coleman's for their annual Green Beer Sunday — a Central New York tradition ushering in the start of St. Patrick's Day season in Syracuse. Watch the parade start at the upside-down traffic light and enjoy live music, Irish step dancers, bag pipes and a giant tanker truck filled with green beer for all.
