Thirty-five West Ave is an affordable apartment near downtown Kitchener. It was built by my parents when I was ten years old. I have a love of design and renovation and hope you will find the apartment a delightful place to stay in your travels. I am calling the building Mika's Garden in honour of my mother. My folks emigrated to Canada in 1948 as refugees and dad started a business building homes, apartments and some non residential in 1954. My folks were smart and resourceful and the business was paying the bills if not that much more. My father passed away at the time of construction and mother made some smart and gutsy moves to hang on the the building in progress. She finished the building. She went back to work as a Lab Technician at KW hospital and raised her two boys as a single mom. I grew up in Kitchener Waterloo, went to university in Ottawa and settled in Toronto. I had a business as a cabinet / furniture maker for 12 years and then worked as a teacher at George Brown College full time for 30 years. Retired last year. I am blessed to own the building and want it provide good quality affordable housing in Kitchener for the long run. Some Airbnb will support that goal. Photo is of me at 18 months. Frederick
