The cabin is located in stunning scenery, nestled midway between Carningli Mountain, Ty-Canol ancient oak woodland & the foothills of the Preselis & only 3 miles from the sea. With an outdoor hot tub, it's easy to kick back and relax.

Our fully insulated wooden cabin is just a couple of miles from Newport, Pembrokeshire. The cabin perches on the top of one of a series of 3 nearby mounds (the origin of which is still unclear, but you can see the other two from the garden) and over looks stunning scenery. The building is sunny, warm, light and airy, with a woodburning stove for when the weather is cooler. The water is heated by solar panels and a log boiler down in the main house. The hotub and garden has lovely views and you can sit back and enjoy incredible sunsets behind carningli mountain.

Guests and friends often tell us that they have not slept and relaxed so well for a long time. Maybe it's because there are very few places left in Britain where you cannot hear the hum of a busy road or the sound of vehicles every few minutes. Here at the cosy Cabin, the small lanes are extremely quiet and you are completely surrounded by nature. All around you are hills, mountains, wooded valleys, streams and great mature oaks, ash and sycamore. Except for the neighbouring farm buildings, you could easily believe that you are tens of miles from civilisation; yet just over the side of Carningli (the rocky ancient volcano you can see from the garden) and only 3 miles away is the small bustling town of Newport. Newport is a tiny town that has an incredible variety of attractions including farmers market (on Mondays), award winning cafes, pubs and restaurants, local shops and art galleries and of course the sea with a beautiful sandy beach, cliff walks and sandunes.

Before going into more detail I need to be clear on the location and type of property this is. The cabin has a compost loo which is a dry system that works without a flush, where the waste is converted into fertile soil for the apple trees. The loo does not smell bad in case you were wondering, but is not the same as a flush toilet. Access to the cabin involves some steep steps and a slightly uneven path with some leaves and loose small stones. It is not a modern set-up with a tarmac driveway with all the latest mod-cons (unless you're talking super comfortable beds, cooking, showering and hotub!) The best thing to do before booking is read through a number of reviews as well as much of the description as possible to get a feel for the place to make sure it's right for you.

The cabin is open plan with a large curtain to separate the downstairs bedroom. There is a king size bed downstairs and a double mattress upstairs, and a travel cot if needed. We only make up the downstairs bed when there is one person or a couple staying, but if you'd prefer to sleep upstairs, just let us know before your stay. There is an electric shower and heated towel rail in the bathroom. The garden has chairs and there is a veranda for undercover outside dining.

The outdoor electric hot tub is partly powered by the solar panels in the garden (as is the whole cabin), and it is hot and ready to use all the time. We will need access to the hot tub to check the levels, change filters etc if needed, but we always try to do this while guests are out. While we do provide a set of towels (one bath towel and one hand towel per guest), it might be an idea to bring an extra towel for the hot tub, and maybe a dressing gown. Some slip on shoes would also be useful for going between the cabin and the hot tub.

As we are out in the sticks, mobile service is intermittent, but most networks can get signal somewhere, even if it means a trip to the garden or short walk into the field. There is no landline or internet in the cabin. We have been toying with the idea of getting the cabin connected, however, every single guest (even those that were expecting wifi) have told us at the end of their stay they were so happy not be distracted by their mobile phones, email etc. And that their experience was so much richer for it that we should definitely not introduce it... being cut off from social media addiction for even just a few days is incredibly relaxing and refreshing and is so rare these days. It is easy to forget how good for the mind the experience of spending quality time together, reading, playing games, talking and being able to completely relax is. So if you are worried about being off screen for a few days, don't be, as it really does make for a fantastic experience. Many of the pubs etc in newport do have free wifi if you do need to get online. If you would like to have a tv with DVD player please enquire and we should be able to provide without issue

The cabin is self catering, and the kitchen is fully equipped, with a fridge, kettle, toaster and an induction cooker and Samsung oven which are super efficient and a pleasure to use. Some basics are provided, like salt, pepper, some herbs and spices and cooking oil. There will be complimentary tea and coffee (ground, for the caffetiere). There is no washing machine, but I would be happy to do a wash for you at a cost of £2 a load. We also have a dryer, which would be an extra £2, but there is also a drying line outside the cabin. Newport has a launderette too, opposite the Golden Lion pub.

Bedding and bathroom towels are provided.

If it's raining, there is a fantastic new local cafe in Newport called Pwnc that has an indoor climbing wall free for cafe customers and great for kids. there are also great indoor theme parks like Blue Lagoon etc. not too far away, and the hotub can be fun in the rain. There are a host of other fair weather types of activities close at hand too.

North Pembrokeshire is much quieter than the south and has a unique combination of rocky outcrops, stunning beaches and coastal path, wooded valleys and enclaves, friendly neighbours and a night sky with hardly any light pollution, resulting in a fantastic the view of the stars. The more well-known stunning beaches of Newport, Poppit and Whitesands are interspersed with little gems that are much quieter and actually often much more beautiful such as Cwm Yr Eglwys only a few miles away.

The neighbourhood is a mix of traditional welsh farmers, smallholdings and people that have chosen a sustainable path and live off the land (this includes communities such as Lammas and Brithdir Mawr, as well as groups of families that share giant vegetable growing plots and a cow where each household takes a turn at milking!), stone farmhouses and cottages interspersed with hobbit style dwellings and homes made from natural materials. The Gwaun Valley that starts at our property is a sight in itself. Its vast densely wooded sides leads down to a welsh community that has culturally changed very little for centuries. They still celebrate their own new year, have a primary school still running strong with only 24 pupils in total and have a pub that is old as they come and only serve beer from jugs.

There are plenty of beautiful sights and places of interest within walking distance along beautiful winding quiet backroads. The large organically farmed field next door with the large oak tree atop an ancient mound is ours and provides a stunning short walk or sports/activity ground (we have football nets to borrow), depending on the livestock! Ty canol woods (less than 1 mile away) is home to an ancient stunted oak woodland, rocky outcrops and carpeted in mosses and lichens, it is like walking into a fairytale book. The woods lead on to the larger rocky outcrops of Carnau meibion Owen which looks out to the preseli hills and also the ancient burial chamber of Pentre Ifan.

The heather strewn slopes of Carningli mountain (less than 1 mile away) are well worth a climb, the views from on top are spectacular.

Newport has a stunning large sandy beach with dunes and is great for swimming. The town of Newport has become famous for its array of great cafes, restaurants and shops including a wholefood shop, butchers, hardware store, fishmongers (specialising in locally caught fish), pharmacy, newsagents, craft collective, antique centre, Spar and a local produce market on a Monday morning.

Our closest neighbours (300 yards ish), Simon and Kerry at Tyriet farm have opened a micro brewery (Bluestone brewing co.), and you can drop in and pick up a bottle or three of their finest ales.

I live in Pembrokeshire with my husband Robin our 2 sons Finnan 16, Calan 14 and our 2 year old daughter Medi. We feel extremely fortunate to live in this beautiful corner of Wales . I was born in Pembrokeshire and my husband Robin moved here when he was 3. We have both lived away, but in the end we were drawn back to the wooded valleys and rocky hills that enriched our childhoods.

Our garden is an on-going project, but year on year I am trying to grow more veg, fruit, and flowers. We have been keeping chickens for over 10 years (there's nothing quite like your own home grown eggs), and started our small herd of Longhorn cattle in 2020. By using regenerative farming methods, we are nourishing our land, the wildlife and producing the best beef and eggs. Let us know if you'd like to buy a box of our golden yolked eggs.

As a family we are very environmentally aware, and try to tread lightly on the planet. We enjoy time outside and have recently been enjoying football games in our field with neighbours and family.

While we do live next door to the cabin, it is up on top of a hill behind the house and the tree lined slopes and wooden fence between the house and cabin means that it's not overlooked. It has it's own private garden which is completely secluded and perches on the edge on one of the most beautiful fields in Pembrokeshire, and on the other side of the cabin is rolling countryside.
We respect that people need their privacy. We do however have two boys (aged 15 and 12 years), and they enjoy playing in our garden and field and at times can be noisy, but we make sure they are quiet in the mornings if they're not at school, so you can get a good lie in. They also spend a lot of time with nearby family and friends and are not always about. We are more than happy to chat about where's good to visit, who does good food, where to buy local veg/meat, and Robin always has an interesting story to tell. We have a large trampoline in the garden and there is a swing from the tree in the field, and while you are welcome to use both, please be aware that you do so at your own risk!.
