Please note that masks may still be required for some indoor events in Cumberland County and some other counties in Maine, so be prepared and make sure to bring along a few with you. This is for both vaccinated and unvaccinated individuals. All members of our family are fully vaccinated. Also make sure that you have a copy of your vaccine card because it may be required for indoor events such as plays, musicals, concerts and events at Bowdoin College.

Welcome to your home away from home! You’ll want to relax and take your time here - so much to see and do! Just a short drive to sunsets beyond belief!! Maine was recently listed among the top 5 worldwide places to visit in 2020 by Lonely Planet. (October 24, 2019)
You will find our guidebook (in the studio) insider tips to be invaluable and they will make your stay so much more enjoyable! Newly installed efficient heat pump provides air conditioning for the summer heat and warmth in the winter months. No drafty seasonal space - bask in year-round comfort regardless of the weather!
Enjoy a nice hot chlorine free shower with well water! (like all families with a well, we still need to be mindful of excessive usage - thank you in advance for your help with this!) And excellent drinking water - no need to buy bottled water! Water conservation is especially important in the summer months.
We have room for one or two vehicles maximum. Kindly let us know if you will have more than one vehicle.
This is a smoke-free space - no smoking (cigarettes or marijuana) , candles or incense are allowed indoors.
Once you are here, you will appreciate how stunning this area is! Our studio is a good value in highly desirable Harpswell. We are THE BEST-SITUATED Airbnb on the Route 24 side of Harpswell leading down to Orr's and Bailey Island for visiting Bath, Brunswick and Topsham and for getting on the highway to venture further. All of these towns are just a few miles and less than 15 minutes away. Bowdoin College is just 6 miles (12 minutes) away. The studio is located at the back of our house considerably far from the road. We live on a two acre piece of property. We are on a busy main road, but this means that we are very accessible to many amazing destinations including small beaches (some you need to know how to reach) and hiking trails within 20 minutes and two state parks with beaches within 35 minutes.
Our 488 square foot (45 square meters) studio on one level (slight step up between rooms) features a private entrance, bedroom area, large efficiency kitchenette (see details below) and a shower bath. The interior space is bright, colorful, inviting and eclectic rather than stark contemporary. There are six windows (all of which open) and two skylights. We’ve decorated the studio with original artwork and a few nautical touches. The studio adjoins our home and is separated from our kitchen by a wall and our pantry.
Outside you will have your own personal sun space with seasonal propane gas grill, table and chairs. Feel free to wander around our yard. Lovely garden and water views from our property! Check out our two small sitting areas on our property across the busy main road with spectacular and expansive views of the New Meadows River! Consider it part of our shared outdoor space - it just happens to be across the road. (That’s why it’s not shown in the backyard photos). We have tidal water access. All use of this area is at your own risk. Water shoes or sandals are necessary for swimming and use is dependent upon the daily high tide schedule. You have approximately 1.5 to 2 hours before and after high tide for swimming.
The ”efficiency plus” kitchenette area is very well-stocked and features a refrigerator, separate upright freezer, kitchen sink, microwave, countertop convection oven (for baking, broiling and toasting - fits a 12 inch pizza - you can easily prepare an entire meal!), coffee maker, glass electric hot water/tea kettle, single glass induction cooktop, and an electric skillet. We ask that you make every effort to operate only two high wattage appliances at one time. We provide pots and pans, cooking utensils, silverware, tea, coffee, olive oil, butter, condiments and milk. If you need anything and we are available, we will gladly furnish what you need. There’s plenty of room for food prep. The kitchenette is very well-equipped with cooking utensils, silverware, dishes, assorted glasses, wok, pots and pans, etc. Rice cooker and/or slow cooker available upon request subject to availablity.
REGARDING LOBSTERS (A Harpswell Specialty) : We want our space to be fresh, odor free and welcoming, so we ask our guests to refrain from deep fat frying or indoor steaming of lobsters and clams. We love lobsters, too, but they can be a bit "intense" in a small space. We will gladly provide an outside propane cooker and large pot for cooking lobsters upon advance request subject to availability.
In addition year round at Gurnet Trading (1 minute up the road) you can order lobsters cooked to order and other seafood and non-seafood meals for eat in or take out. Erica’s (open Mother’s Day Weekend to Columbus Day Weekend, cash only, BYOB) is well worth the 25 minute drive to the other side of Harpswell for freshly prepared seafood - a guest favorite! Steamed lobster at market prices with just a slight upcharge! Make sure to bring cash with you to Erica's.
The studio has a queen bed with soft cotton sheets in the bedroom area along with a 48 inch wide pullout futon couch in the same area. The futon is suitable for one adult. The width is between a single and double bed size.
Please let us know if you require additional linens so that we can leave them in the studio prior to your arrival. Please note that the studio is not child-proofed.
Both parts of the studio have cathedral ceilings and ceiling fans. The living area has rough-hewn beams that are original to the house. There are privacy drapes that can be used to separate the sleeping area from the living space.
The living room area has a 42 in HDTV with ROKU voice remote for XFinity Limited Basic TV, Netflix, Peacock, Roku TV, Amazon Prime, Pandora, and a few more.... STREAMING APPS ARE SUBJECT TO CHANGE, but we will always have some.
We provide a soft side cooler. kayaks or bicycles, bring them along! There are many public boat launches in the area (one is just a minute away) and some good areas for bicycling as well. Many of the busy roads in Maine have no shoulder, so it’s good to be able to stow your bicycles in your car and travel to a location that’s best suited to your bicycling style. We can give you a few suggestions. There is one place to rent bicycles in Brunswick. There are several kayak and paddleboard rental places and arranged kayak tours are offered as well. Sailboat, schooner and charter boat tours are offered, but it’s best to call ahead and make reservations. (seasonal) There are many options for scenic boat tours leaving from Bailey Island, Bath, Portland or Boothbay Harbor. Go on a whale watch or lighthouse and seal tour or set sail on the Schooner Alert out of Bailey Island!

We are in a residential area conveniently located to many of the area highlights. We are on a busy road, but the studio is located at the back of our house, so you should have little to no road noise while inside the studio. We are so spoiled here with scenery and little getaway places! There’s a year round seafood place less than a mile and one minute by car! Eat in or takeout! (5% cash discount). Close by there’s a general store with beer, wine, spirits - and pizza! We are in one of the lobster "capitals" of the world!!! Fresh off the boat and so tasty!! Collect pristine shells at one of our “secret” beaches! Sparkling clean invigorating water for swimming!
Shopping!! Just 6 to 8 minutes (less than 4 miles) to Hannaford (grocery store), Shaw's (grocery store), Walmart (grocery and department store), TJMAXX (a local favorite!), Bed Bath & Beyond, Goodwill, BigLots, DollarTree, etc. Just 15 minutes (6.5 miles) to Target, Reny's, Goodwill, (Topsham store), Dick’s Sporting Goods, etc. Just 24 minutes (9.5 miles) to all the stores and outlets in designer outlet shopping mecca Freeport including LL Bean flagship store (open 24 hours, 365 days per year) and the LL Bean outlet store. Reny’s is a Maine department store. You’ll find these stores throughout the state. Fun shopping for high quality name brand clothing, affordable clothing, Maine souvenirs, international foods and lots more! Enjoy relaxing “downtown” shopping in Brunswick and Bath.
Breweries!! There are more than 20 breweries within a 45 minute drive, with some as close as 15 minutes away. Check out the Maine Beer Trail! We are very close to Flight Deck, Trinken, Moderation, Sea Dog, Black Pug and Bath Brewing. Flight Deck and Trinken are especially fun places with outdoor and indoor seating and entertainment. Feel free to bring your own food or order from the food trucks to either of these two breweries. Moderation is also BYOF. Flight Deck is now offering pizza.
You will need a car to get around, but the driving is easy! You can choose to head towards "civilization" or head in the other direction away from the hustle and bustle - or do a little bit of both. Harpswell is a paradise for lobster lovers and for those who love seafood of all kinds. Unspoiled beauty abounds! Harpswell consists of Great Island, Orr's Island, Bailey Island and the peninsula of South Harpswell.
We are surrounded by saltwater here! Late June, July, August and September are simply enchanting! Nearby Brunswick is a college town, so there's plenty to do there - lots of restaurants, several museums and beaches and trails that you can walk along every day of the year.
We are directly across the road from the New Meadows River. This saltwater river goes out to Casco Bay and the Atlantic Ocean. Our home is located midway between the fun and charming town of Brunswick and the city of Bath (The City of Ships, voted "best main street" recently) We are on Great Island in Harpswell on the way to the Harpswell islands of Orr's Island and Bailey Island. The peninsula of South Harpswell is just across the Mountain Road.
This area is a year-round destination for enjoying Maine hospitality and scenery. Harpswell and the neighboring towns of Topsham, Bath and Brunswick have many nature preserves, hiking trails, public boat launches, a riverfront bicycle trail, river and ocean views and walks. What's really great is that many of the natural scenery can be enjoyed for free - so you can plan a whole day for only the cost of your food - brown bag it, get takeout, or dine in a restaurant. There are numerous restaurants in Harpswell, Brunswick, Bath and Topsham. For nature enthusiasts, get a taste of what you can see by going to the Harpswell Heritage Land Trust website. We have a few favorite restaurants that we personally recommend to our guests.
Brunswick also has Bowdoin College with Maine State Music Theatre and the International Music Festival throughout the summer. Bowdoin College also has two museums (an Arctic and an art museum) and the Chamberlain House Museum is just across the street. Bowdoin often has events and performances that are open to the public. So much to do -consignment store shopping, watching a movie at nearby Regal Cinemas feature film movie theater or the independent movie theater or scheduled dinner, live entertainment and film options at the Frontier cafe. Smitty's in Topsham offers movies and food at the same time! Four theaters to choose from with Regal Cinemas just a five minute drive away!
We are just off Route 1, so we're in a great location to explore Mid Coast Maine for day trips. Visit Rockland/Camden/Rockport, Wiscasset, Boothbay Harbor, Damariscotta all within an hour and 20 minutes or less drive. The Maine Maritime Museum is located in Bath. It offers river cruises in the summer. We are less than 20 minutes (12 miles) from Live Well Farm, a very popular venue for weddings and retreats.
The intriguing and fun city of Portland (with a tremendous number of restaurants, breweries, bars, museums, lighthouses, beaches etc.) is an easy 35 minute drive. Portland has become THE foodie destination- recently voted #1 by Bon Appetit magazine (2018).
Augusta, Maine's capitol city, is also about 40 minutes away. Take a schooner trip out of Bailey Island for a very memorable adventure! Or take a leisurely cruise from Maine Maritime Museum down the Kennebec River.
USA's #1 voted favorite place (according to Good Morning America 2014 poll) Acadia National Park is a three hour drive. We're a good stopping point on the way to Acadia in Bar Harbor if you are heading north.
There are some beaches and special places that are only accessible off season - yet another reason to visit any time of the year! Beaches are almost always walkable -even when there's snow on the ground. Schedule horseback riding on Popham Beach from October 1st through March 31st.
We have many brochures and a helpful “cheat sheet”, so you can put off the planning until you arrive and then comfortably explore the area. Many of our guests have used our Harpswell Heritage Land Trust brochure with a map, description and directions to some amazingly beautiful places that require only an easy hike or drive to visit.

My wife and I live in the beautiful coastal town of Harpswell, Maine. We have a daughter and son in their 20’s. We have hosted exchange students in the past. We love to travel and meet new people. We have stayed in Airbnb places in the Bronx (NYC), Santa Fe, Las Vegas, New Orleans, Massachusetts, Charleston, SC, Savannah, GA, Barcelona and Valencia, Spain, Rome, Florence, Berlin, Krakow, Poland and Sao Miguel, Azores. We love photography, music, dance, cooking, spending time outdoors and exploring new places. My wife speaks fluent German and understands a bit of French and Spanish. We ask you to please give us a little introduction about yourself and why you are visiting the area when your inquire about our place. Since the studio is attached to our home, we want to feel comfortable having you stay in our adjacent space.
Please note per Airbnb's recently updated policy, a profile photo is not required until a booking has been completed and it is then up to the host as to whether or not to require a profile photo. We will require our guest with a completed reservation to immediately upload a profile photo that shows his or her face - please no flowers, cats, smiley faces or sunsets. Please have a photo ready so that the process will go smoothly. This is new to us as hosts as well.
Directly from Airbnb website:
"If a guest's profile photo doesn't include the guest's face and, for example, contains only a cartoon, an avatar, or a picture of something other than a person, you can cancel penalty-free by contacting Airbnb."
We really don't want to have to cancel and haven't yet, but we reserve the right to. If you are uncomfortable sharing a photo after you've reserved our studio, please reach out to us directly regarding this immediately after your reservation has been confirmed. As hosts we don't see any of your personal identification documents. Thank you so much!
It's also really helpful if you reach out to us the day of your arrival or prior to that and tell us what time you anticipate arriving. Instructions for entering the studio are provided.
Although we cannot guarantee that we will be available to greet you upon arrival, we will most likely be available at some point during your stay to meet you. There will be times during the year when we are away and we will let you know if this is the case. If we aren't available during your stay, we will be readily available by cellphone or messaging to answer any questions you have or we will provide you with a local contact person.
Upon your arrival, we will be happy to tell you about the local attractions, deals and best kept secrets and visit with you in the common area outdoors, however we will also respect your privacy if that is your wish. We have two cats and a dog. For the comfort and safety of our guests with pet allergies, they are not allowed in the guest studio, but you may see them or visit with them if we socialize in our screened porch.
We really enjoy conversing and interacting with our guests if that is your wish, so please don't hesitate to ask us if you need to borrow anything and let us know if something isn't working properly or if there is anything that we can do to improve the studio or make your stay more enjoyable. Your satisfaction is very important to us!
