3 bedrooms sleeping up to 4 on private floor of rural family home, set in 6 acres of land in the beautiful Slad Valley. Perfect base from which to explore the Cotswolds. Peaceful, unique and isolated setting, in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, yet only 4 minutes’ drive from town. Great country walks, plentiful wildlife and, from the top of our land, views across to Wales on a clear day. Enjoy breakfast (included) in the heart of our home. Families welcome. Access via unsurfaced road.

Eignin
Please note: Each of the three bedrooms on this private floor is available to book on its own. If you would like to book only 1 or 2 rooms, we will not take other bookings for the remaining room(s) during your stay, to maintain your privacy. This entire floor is intended for guests and their family / friends only.

The guests' private staircase is easy to access as it is just inside the front door, leading directly off the shared family hall.

Self-check in and self-check out is available.

Single bedroom 1:

Comfortable single bed in spacious room with view overlooking garden and field beyond. Egyptian cotton bed linen. Closest to the stairs. And to the toilet.

Double bedroom:

Comfortable double bed with view overlooking garden (our favourite tree right outside, gorgeous in spring and summer!) and field beyond. Egyptian cotton bed linen and electric blanket.

Single bedroom 2:

Comfortable single bed with view overlooking garden and field beyond. Egyptian cotton bed linen. Adjacent to double room so ideal for a child.

All bedrooms share one private bathroom and one private, separate toilet. There are locks on the bathroom and toilet doors.

You'll find tea and coffee making facilities in each room. We offer breakfast from 7.30 - 10am e.g. homemade granola, juice, bread, croissants, local honey. Vegan options available. Just let us know approximately when you’d like to eat and any dietary requirements in advance. Since it's a family kitchen, please expect to share this relatively large space with some of the three of us, on some mornings.

Some parts of our home date back to the 16th century. Others... the 1960s! Guests should not expect perfection, nor a manicured garden but, rather; a comfortable family home in a great location. It’s a space we love sharing with guests.

Check in is from 4 - 10pm. Check out 11am.

Since Coronavirus, we are following WHO, UK Government and Hospitality industry guidelines on deep cleaning all shared spaces in-between guests. Hand sanitiser will be available at entry and on the guests' floor.

Aðgengi gesta
Guests use the shared hall to access their staircase, leading to their own floor.

During breakfast hours (7.30-10am), please make yourself at home in the kitchen where there is a comfortable seating area and wood burning stove; lit throughout Autumn and Winter. We also now offer the option of breakfast laid out in a different space (off the hall), for those that feel more comfortable being in a separate space to the family.

Please feel free to use the garden where we have a table and chairs + umbrella out during Spring and Summer, or have a wander around our 6 acres of land. The views from the top are wonderful.

Annað til að hafa í huga
We are in a rural location. Our long private driveway is not surfaced and so, if you have a very low vehicle, you may struggle to get down. Normal cars are fine. There is parking available at the stables (1/2 way down to the house) for those that prefer to park there.

We’re delighted to welcome families with children over 2 years old.

Our small friendly dog, Pip, is not allowed upstairs - but never says no to a cuddle or tennis ball game, downstairs! He sleeps next to the wood burner in the kitchen, so is likely to be around during breakfast. We ask that guests do not feed him from the table, or at all, please.

Breakfast, available between 7.30-10am, is included. Please let us know roughly what time you’d like to eat and any food allergies or dietary requirements e.g vegan, gluten-free or dairy-free.

We have our own spring water, filtered and treated before it reaches the taps. We filter it a second time before filling the bottles in guests’ bedrooms, for use in kettles. (We think it tastes better than mains water. Let us know what you think!). Please pop down to the kitchen for refills.

Wifi is generally good in all rooms. However, please be aware that sometimes it does cut out and a connection in your bedroom will not be available. On these occasions you may need to use 4G.

Do bring wellies or walking boots. It can be muddy outside.

We can provide torches for anyone wishing to walk back from town or a village pub in the evenings. The only other light will be from the moon or stars. Please be aware that there are often livestock in neighbouring fields.

Gloucestershire, England, Bretland

The woods just below our house, although privately owned, have a public footpath running through them. The owners cordon off some of this woodland for some of the year.

Swift's Hill; a local, protected landmark is a 25 minute walk from the house, through the woods and along a country lane. You will be rewarded with beautiful views of the Slad Valley, immortalised in Laurie Lee's 'Cider with Rosie'. If you fancy a pint and something to eat, keep going for another 15 minutes until you reach The Woolpack Inn (Lee's watering hole). Or, if you're feeling energetic, you could walk some of the famous Cotswold Way.

The friendly, creative and vibrant town of Stroud, with its award winning Farmers’ Market, is only 4mins drive, or 25mins walk (via the woods) away. Nailsworth (lovely cafés), Cirencester (great shops), Cheltenham (Races, Internationally renowned festivals: Jazz, Science, Music, Literature), Tetbury and Gloucester are all within easy reach, as well as many delightful villages.

Since our closest roads and neighbours are fields away, you can expect peace and quiet. Exceptions being 1. The occasional animal call; this could be an owl, fox, stag or cow, or 2. The distant sound of rehearsals coming from the home of Giffords' Circus (we highly recommend a visit, and you can avoid any queues of cars by walking!), our neighbours, two fields' away. Please note: the circus only rehearses and performs here for a week or two every year since they tour the country for the remainder of their season. You may wake up to a view of cows, sheep or deer out of the window; rabbits, squirrels or a darting fox. It's the perfect place to come if you love the countryside and wildlife.

Since it's a busy family home, outside of breakfast hours, we will be coming and going. We respect guests' privacy and independence and ask that they kindly do the same for us. We will gladly tailor our visibility / invisibility to you, where possible.
