Greytown yurts is luxury accommodation with all the fun and appeal of glamping but with total comfort. There is a ducted heat pump to keep you comfortable all year round. The interior offers a luxurious and calming environment, with beautiful views across our garden. It has a very comfortable king size bed (183 * 203 cm), with superior linen, bedding, towels and robes.
A one off cleaning fee and 20% service charge will be added to the price. You can also visit our Greytownyurts online.

Eignin
The yurt is set in its own secluded garden, at the back of our 2 acre garden and is just a short 500m stroll into the heart of historic Greytown village.  It is perfect for couples wanting a romantic weekend away. You can look up to the night sky through the clear dome at the top of the yurt. The ‘hot tub’ is actually an outside bath which is right by the door into the yurt, it is very private and there are lovely robes for you to use while you are staying.

The property itself is quiet and peaceful as it is two blocks away from the traffic noise of State Highway 2.  Ultimately you will be in your own private garden, but some of the hedges still need to grow, however you are screened off from our house by a well established hedge.

We use 'Real World' luxury toiletries, they use natural plant based products without all the nasty chemicals.  You will have their Kowhai Flower & Lemon Verbena Body Wash, Lime Blossom & Kiwi Seed Shampoo and Conditioner, Sandalwood & Rose Geranium Hand Wash as well as their Vertiver & Lavender Sleep Bath Salts and Black Raspberry & Vanilla Bath Foam during your stay.

You will also have:
• coffee plunger
• gorgeous Schott Zwiesel wine glasses
• Apple TV
• USB chargers in the hotpoints beside the bed
• Torches (it is very dark in the countryside at night so these are available for when you go into town at night)
• Umbrellas
• Iron and ironing board (available on request)
• We also have bikes, and helmets (available on request)
• Portacot (available on request)

Aðgengi gesta
You can access the yurt down a separate driveway to the back of our property.

Annað til að hafa í huga
We will supply you with our homemade Paleo muesli, greek yoghurt, and milk, for breakfast.  We will also provide you with fresh ground Mojo coffee and a selection of teas.

Our garden
We purchased the property in early 2010 when it was just a paddock, it was previously Gray’s Berry Farm.  We developed the garden ourselves, and first planted about 500 - 700 pittosporum tenufolium to establish a boundary hedge.  Then, with the help of our wonderful local arborist, we planted over 100 large trees and continued to develop the garden from there.  The only trees that existed when we bought the land are the 5 apricot trees you can see from the yurt.  You are welcome to walk through the knot garden and to sit on the swing seat under the apricot trees.  We are also happy to show you more of the garden, please ask us.

Greytown, Wellington, Nýja-Sjáland

There are a number of options for breakfast, such as the French Baker, and Cahoots. For dining in Greytown we can recommend Pinocchio Restaurant & Bar on the Main Street for lunch or dinner, but you do need to book in early for dinner as it is very popular. Cuckoo cafe is open Wednesday to Sunday evenings, and make excellent pizzas. There is also an excellent Indian restaurant in town, Aroma Indian, open Tuesday to Sunday, they will also deliver.

If the weather is bad we suggest you drive to Masterton and visit The Screening Room, a boutique cinema and restaurant in Kuripuni, at the southern end of Masterton. We can also highly recommend a drive to Johner Winery for a wine tasting, they are at 359 Dakins Road, East Taratahi.

If you are interested in bush walks, Fensham Reserve is 3km west of Carterton, on Belvedere & Cobham Roads. It is a 48 hectare reserve with some kahikatea swamp forest, with wetlands as well.  There are trees estimated to be between 400 and 700 years old. It is open all the time but pets are not allowed. The Waiohine Gorge is also a must see with its amazing suspension bridge over the Waiohine River.  This forms a spectacular access to many walks in the Tararua Forest Park.

A local community group have developed the old rail trail between Woodside train station and the southern end of Greytown into a cycle trail.  It is well maintained and is a lovely ride through farm land.  The trail begins at the southern end of Cotter Street.

Greytown is in the heart of the Wairarapa, a 15 minute drive to Martinborough or Gladstone, and 30 minutes to Masterton.  Greytown is named after Governor Sir George Grey, who was governor general of New Zealand twice in 1845 to 1853, and 1861 to 1868.  It is a small village with a population of about 2,500. Greytown is proud of its history, claiming to have the most complete main street of Victorian architecture in New Zealand, and of being the first planned inland town. It has played on these assets, creating a revival largely based on its architecture. Retailers like the butcher have changed their 1970s street frontage to a more Victorian one. The town recognises that buildings need to be maintained in order to maintain the town's charm and in 2016-2017 six significant building were restored/painted. Greytown was awarded New Zealand's Most Beautiful Small Town in 2017 by the Keep New Zealand Beautiful charitable trust. The Greytown Hotel claims to be one of New Zealand's oldest surviving hotels.
