Two-bedroom self-contained/self-catering cottage, sleeping 4-6 people, welcoming children & dogs. In the Jurassic Coast, near Bridport with arts activities and twice-weekly market, & West Bay of Broadchurch and Harbour Lights fame. Eype is a village of 2 parts - Higher and Lower. Down the steep hill at Lower Eype lies the secluded beach at Eype's Mouth. St. Peter's Church, Eype, is at the top of the hill, hosting a number of exhibitions and concerts, with weekly church services.

Eignin
The Cottage at Yeldon is all on the ground floor, with easy access from parking on a gravel drive (which surface, unfortunately, is not helpful for wheelchairs). There is a large lounge/diner, with a small, but well-equipped kitchen, a shower-room, and two bedrooms, one with a Queen bed and the other with twin beds. There are good-sized wardrobes in both bedrooms, with drawers and shelves. There is a double sofa-bed in the lounge which can sleep a further two people, but more than four people would find it a bit of a squash to stay for more than a night or two. [6 people, plus a dog or two is definitely too many for the space!] Please note our insurance will not allow us to accept more than 6 people, including babies and infants.

We welcome children. Usually we keep many toys and books in the cottage, as well as games, DVDs and videos. Unfortunately at the present time of being ultra-clean and careful re COVID 19, we have had to remove all these, as they could not all be cleaned every time between bookings. However, there will be a choice of items to borrow in this category. Please also bring your own amusements. Well-behaved dogs are welcome (for a charge of £15 per dog) and we will introduce ours to you, so she will recognise you as 'friends'.

Aðgengi gesta
The Cottage is in our two-acre garden, with an orchard and croquet lawn, which guests can use upon request in fine settled weather. Access on request to our field and woodland walk. (Please note that the field may have sheep grazing in it, in which case, dogs should be kept on a lead .)

Annað til að hafa í huga
There are TV, DVD player, free wi-fi, radio/CD player, cafetiere, toaster, microwave, hob, oven and a washer-drier, with iron, board and clothes racks. There is usually a selection of children's toys, books, DVDs, videos, games and local tourist leaflets, but see our note above on removing these items during COVID-careful time as we cannot keep them deep-cleaned. There will be a list of items that you may borrow in this category. There are beach towels available in addition to house towels and tea towels. Touch-on/off bedside lamps with USB chargers set in the bases. Hair-dryer.

We have a table tennis table (somewhat old but still serviceable), giant jenga and giant pick-up sticks for guests' use outdoors in settled weather, and garden furniture for eating al-fresco, and/or just kicking back in the reclining chairs for a bit of sun to the face. And of course croquet on the lawn.

We provide a welcome pack to let you make a cup of tea or coffee on arrival, if you arrive without provisions of your own. Two toilet rolls will be provided, but if you need more, please supply your own.

For dog-owners, there is a dog bowl, but please supply their own bedding and/or crate and do not let them on the furniture. Please note there will be a charge of £15 per dog for your stay and the house rules state that any dogs should not be left on their own in the Cottage without being shut in a crate.

We do not make extra charges for cleaning, so please carry out a basic tidy, clean through and empty bins/recycling when you leave. This helps us keep the cost to you as low as possible and ensures no hidden extra charges after you book.

Staðsetning

Bridport, Dorset, Bretland

Set in glorious open countryside on a hill, with a view of the sea from the front of the main house. From the guest cottage there are views over the Marshwood Vale and the town of Bridport. Neighbours are not immediate but within reach. It is a fabulous part of the world for walking, either along the coast or further inland to the lovely hills and valleys around, perhaps stopping at countryside pubs or cafes along the way. (Please note that during winter months, some local facilities close or have their opening times reduced.)

Please note that there are few places open or activities available at the moment (so some listed here may be closed or only open for take-away), but we have some wonderful walks around here - closest is across the lane, up onto Eype Down and over to the cliffs (stopping off at Down House Farm Cafe for a coffee, lunch or cream tea), follow the coast path down onto the beach at Eype's Mouth and then back up the lane through the pretty village. You could call in for a drink and food at the local pub, the New Inn. St. Peter's Church at the top of the hill holds weekly Sunday services at 6.30pm between April and December, and is host to the Eype Centre for the Arts, which holds events and regular art and other exhibitions, concerts, etc. between April and October.

If you like walking, park at the National Trust car park at Langdon Hill Wood and go up the Golden Cap, the highest point on the south coast which has fabulous views. We have a file in the cottage with a number of other suggested walks.

West Bay (famed for the filming of "Broadchurch") is a lovely little harbour close by with traditional British seaside ice cream and fish and chips kiosks. Also the Jurassic Coast Discovery Centre in the old Methodist Chapel.

The town of Bridport, which is known for its historic rope and net-making along the wide pavements, has market days with stalls spread out along them on Wednesdays and Saturdays. In this interesting and ancient town, there is a museum which has recently been refurbished. There is the Bridport Arts Centre, Electric Palace and the Lyric Theatre, which put on shows, concerts and films.

Bridport, West Bay and Eype's Mouth are famed locations for TV programmes and films, such as Broadchurch, Harbour Lights, Far from the Madding Crowd, Ammonite and others.

For all Bridport and West Bay activities, look at tourist information web sites.

Further afield:

Charmouth Heritage Coast Centre for walks to look for and learn about fossils.

Lyme Regis is well worth a visit (famous for the author Jane Austen, who stayed there and films including The French Lieutenant's Woman). To learn about real discovered fossils/dinosaur bones, there is the Lyme Regis Museum, with history of Mary Anning, the famous fossil hunter, subject of the film Ammonite, soon to be released. The Marine Theatre there also hosts shows and concerts.

If the children are into tanks, planes etc especially wartime services, then try these:
The Tank Museum at Bovington
The Fleet Air Arm Museum at Ilchester
The Keep Military Museum at Dorchester

If animals appeal, then try looking at these:
Abbotsbury Swannery - well worth a visit, but for a joint ticket you can also access the Children's farm and the Sub-tropical Gardens

Monkey World at Wareham
The Donkey Sanctuary at Sidmouth

There is also the Seaton tramway to ride on through some bird wetlands.

For letting off lots of children's energy try Clip 'n' Climb at The Quay Climbing Centre in Exeter.

We are a couple in our late-sixties, with two daughters. We all live in the UK; elder daughter/son-in-law just north of London; younger daughter in West London; we live in Dorset. We have a large dog - a Rhodesian Ridgeback, and are committed members of our local church, and other community groups. We moved here from London about 10 years ago, to a beautiful estate near Eype Down, where we walk the dog. It is very peaceful and gentle here - a great difference from the hustle and bustle of London. We try to be good hosts, friendly, but not imposing.

We will be in the main house much of the time during your stay and available to answer any questions you may have. We have a Rhodesian Ridgeback, Emba, (sadly, our other one, Darby, has just passed away) so guests should be comfortable with a large dog who may be roaming around and may come in to have a friendly pat, if the door is left open! Please do not feed her, as this ensures that she would pester you.
