Your Eco-Bungalow sits in it's own private compound with a natural 'living' dipping pool. It has two bedrooms separated by an open living space, each with a private outdoor bathroom. Each bedroom can be rented separately or jointly. The bungalow is specifically designed to be environmentally friendly, using natural cooling principles for maximum thermal comfort, solar power for lighting and fans, and constructed from 100% recycled, plantation and locally sourced materials with natural finishes.

Eignin
Each room is equipped with a large double bed enclosed in a pure cotton mosquito net with in built bed fans, USB ports and reading light. The room includes a stocked minibar and snacks for your convenience, along with a comfortable writing desk and chair with international powerpoints for your convenience. Each room has it's own verandah with a bench for two overlooking the edible gardens and dipping pool.

All our bungalows have been designed by eco-housing specialists using a range of innovative passive solar systems to keep the temperature stable and ensure your comfort all year round. This includes, radiant heat resistant roofing systems, waterfalls and moats to cool the floors, and open air ventilation to the north and south to catch daily breezes.

The edible landscape gardens of Bungalow 5 feature Yabbiekayu's first natural living dipping pool which cleans itself by mimicking the natural filtration mechanisms of a healthy river. Water from the pool flows continuously through a series of cascading ponds filled with plants and fish, then down a living wall, and through a series of natural material filters. This process, aerates, oxygenates, and cleanses the water, creating a healthy clean natural invigorating pond in which you can cool off during the heat of the day.

Bungalow 5 is also our first bungalow to use solar power for all it's essential electrical services including, lighting, bed fans, USB phone chargers and key chain torches. The use of solar power ensures blackout proofing and improved sustainability. Mains electricity is still available as a backup and to provide extra capacity for any larger devices you may wish to power and additional lights. All our solar system components are designed and made in Indonesia and available for sale at the Yabbiekayu shop.

Hello, my name is Bakti. I run and manage Yabbiekayu since 2012 with my amazing team, including; The truly awesome Babun our senior guest relations officer who will quite likely welcome you on arrival, and the charming and delightful Uwik and sweet Adel, our guest relations officers who will probably meet you and assist during your stay. All speak perfect English, have traveled overseas, and have extensive experience in assisting foreigners and Indonesians travelling through Yogya. Between them we are confident that they will be able to ensure you have a magnificent stay. Yabbiekayu: A Yabbie is a small freshwater crustacean that lives in rivers in Australia, whilst Kayu is the Indonesian word for wood, hence the Wooden Yabbie. The name comes out of a crossover of the prior experience of the founder of Yabbiekayu running an internet publishing company in Australia where he was known as the bigyabbie. This combined with his lifelong obsession with timber, mixed with the feeling of joy of the expression "yippieayu!" lead to our unique name. In many ways the name sums up the experience of a foreigner living in a small village (pond) with a love for buildings made from natural local materials Yabbiekayu was always intended as communal and friendly homestay, a place to meet like minded people, to relax and to act as a base for exploring the exciting range of activities that the lovely village of Tembi and the nearby city of Yogya have to offer. At Yabbiekayu our goal is to be a model of ecologically sustainable tourism, creating quality employment for local people while sharing the remarkable experience of life in a small village in Java in sustainably built and managed bungalows. We offer a distinct Javanese style of highly personalised service and as such are here to assist you in any way to ensure your holiday is as perfect as possible, We can help out with requests from hiring motorbikes, masseurs or babysitters to finding a good optometrist, a secluded temple or an exciting art exhibition. Our dream for Yabbiekayu is to be small, friendly, adaptable and flexible to your needs and wishes. We look forward to your visit.
