Staðsetning

Castleton, England, Bretland

The village of Castleton has welcomed tourists for centuries, and the show caves have even hosted Queen Victoria and Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. Today you can see where the famous local 'Blue John' stone is mined, take a boat trip underground and on some weekends you can see a movie or go to a gig in some of the larger caves (book in advance).

If you'd rather stay above ground Peveril Castle is run by English Heritage, and the entrance is located on the Market Place just across from the cottage. Or you can see it from a different angle by walking up Cave Dale opposite.

There are fantastic walks all around, Mam Tor and the Great Ridge are super popular, and a 'must do' but there are also a huge number of other paths to explore.

We've left some maps and guides for you to use whilst you are in the cottage, and 2 minutes away, the tourist information centre can provide tonnes of useful information, and point you in the direction of walks and attractions suited to your interests.

There are lots of shops for you to browse, and 7 local pubs as well as a restaurants and cafes if you need to re-energise after a long (or short!) walk.

My husband and I moved to the Peak District from Sheffield in 2013, previously living in London, Essex and Banff National Park in Canada, where our love of mountain sports, camping and the outdoors really took hold. The Peak District is our tiny Rockies (!) - and we feel super lucky to live and work in such a fantastic place. I love walking and running with my dog on the trails around our home, and of course, enjoying a pub lunch or a large slice of cake to counteract all of the activity!
