Staðsetning

Selfoss, Ísland

The closest neighbour is a remarkable nature.
But 26km away, in the closest town of Selfoss, grocery stores, restaurants, cafes, bars, quick bites and desserts can be found.

Last but not least, what is worth visiting nearby?

You can pick out of the extensive list:

Glaciers section:
-Eyjafjallajökull, one of the smaller ice caps of Iceland, north of Skógar and west of Mýrdalsjökull, is located 87 km away. The ice cap covers the caldera of a volcano with a summit elevation of 1,651 metres. The volcano has erupted relatively frequently since the last glacial period, most recently in 2010.
- 106 km distanced is Sólheimajökull glacier in southern Iceland, between the volcanoes Katla and Eyjafjallajökull. Part of the larger Mýrdalsjökull glacier, Sólheimajökull is a prominent and popular tourist location owing to its size and relative ease of access.
Lake section:
- Lake Þingvallavatn anglicised as Thingvallavatn, is a rift valley lake in southwestern Iceland. With a surface of 84 km² it is the largest natural lake in Iceland with the greatest depth of 114 m. It is placed 63 km away.
- 66 km far from our property, Lake Laugavatn contains geothermal springs under its surface, making it a popular swimming spot with some warm patches along the shoreline year-round.
Waterfall section:
-Seljalandsfoss waterfall, located in the South Region in Iceland, can be found 69 km away. The waterfall drops 60 m and is part of the Seljalands River that has its origin in the volcano glacier Eyjafjallajökull.
-2 min away from the Seljalandsfoss, the Gljúfrabúi waterfall can be visited. Gljúfrafoss or Gljúfrabúi is a small waterfall north of the larger falls of Seljalandsfoss in Iceland. The falls are partially obscured by the cliff rock, but hikers can follow a trail to enter the narrow canyon where the water plummets to a small pool.
Mountain section:
- Mt. Hekla or Hecla, a stratovolcano in the south of Iceland with a height of 1,491 m, can be discovered 96 km away from our property. Hekla is one of Iceland's most active volcanoes; over 20 eruptions have occurred in and around the volcano since 874. During the Middle Ages, Europeans called the volcano the "Gateway to Hell".

Enjoy the magnificent landscape!

I was a carpenter for most of my life, but now am trying to live my dream by building a self-sufficient home on a private island in the South Coast of Iceland. I grew up running around my family's island, harvesting goose and duck down and eggs from the various nesting sites, and observing the nesting ravens which returned yearly to raise their young here. The river that surrounds the island has plenty of seals which I enjoy viewing every night, and one of my favorite activities is to go out onto the river, shut off the boat engine, and just drift down, waiting for the seals to swim up to swap stories with me and my dog Gutti. My ultimate dream is to set-up an artist's residency program, allowing young creatives to visit the island and use it for inspiration and creative reinvigoration. I'm a sailor at heart and I use Iceland's winter months to sail the warmer seas of the world. My life mottos are: "The only thing I know, is that I don't know anything - Socrates "You don't stop playing because you get old; you get old because you stop playing" - Unknown
