Taking over this small family business isn't always easy, but it is super rewarding! My family fell in love with Block Island back in the late 70's, when my parents bought this property, a "diamond in the rough." My mom, an artist herself, established The Sea Breeze Gallery on the premises in the early 1980's. Featuring local artists and RISD teachers and students, and emerging artists from the NYC area, where we lived off-season. With the help of my 2 sisters, our whole family fixed up the buildings, planted the gardens, built the red-brick paths, and opened the Gallery and then the B+B, which opened in 1983. We first renovated The Inlet Cottage, originally built in the 1930's, and once used as a boarding house for the local fishing community. These rooms remain in essence what we fell in love with about Block Island: the peacefulness and incredible natural beauty of the island, with its special history. I worked every summer we all spent together, as a chambermaid at The B+B, and as a breakfast waitress next door at our neighbors The 1661 Inn. I also had a few other jobs on the island and loved to windsurf in my spare time. After college, I had a career in NYC as a film editor in the advertising world. Now, fast forward to the year 2010, when I took over the helm of our family's thriving business. The Sea Breeze was in need of some TLC. Each year I have tackled renovations to maintain the charm of our weather-beaten little cottages facing the eastern shoreline. 2019 marks our 36th year in business on Block Island! The Sea Breeze is still all about relaxation, original island charm, handmade pottery, local art, delicious breakfasts, and nature conservation. Much praise goes to our amazing, hard-working staff who keep the place in tip-top shape when I am not on-site. I travel between Block Island and Brooklyn, NY. I have my own family now with my husband who is a cinematographer, and our two teenagers, Luca and Isabelle. We all love Block Island and we all love to travel!
