This turn of the century silo, constructed with re-purposed materials, has been converted into a 5 story "glamping" tower. Each level is unique and charming in its own way. Perhaps the 4th floor boasts the most intrigue. Here, a hammock chair, cozy rug, automatic trap door and 6 large opening windows with a 360 degree view create quite the ambiance. There are many rivers and lakes nearby.

Please note* There are 3 Airbnb's on the property, we occasionally host events. You may see other people.

This is a glamping Silo, please dress for the weather and come prepared for a rustic experience.

The Silo from floor to rooftop stands nearly 40 feet and has 4 floors and a loft with a bed. 4 floors are accessed with a cleverly engineered spiral staircase. The 5th lofted floor is accessed by a 6 foot ladder (no pets in peak please). The spiral staircase climbs the inner wall while the floors make way in the center revealing an artsy vertical view.
The 4th floor is a unique space with 6 large opening windows that reveal a 360° view of the farm and wildlife reserve land. Geese, Sandhill Crane, deer and turkey are quite often heard and seen. Bring a book, watch a movie, take in the views and fall asleep to a closer view of the stars.

Please note*
The loft on the 5th level is not well suited for individuals over 6 feet tall. The space is cozy, nestled in the peak of the Silo above the windows. Accessed by a hand fabricated folding ladder, Its just large enough to fit a queen size memory foam mattress, flat screen TV and DVD player. It has A/C for the hot days and a space heater for the cold days.

The bathroom is a converted milk-house with hot running water just steps from the silo entrance (seasonal, will be closed before first freeze). A recently renovated outhouse is used during colder months. Going as "Green" as possible, we went with a Shabby-Chic/Industrial vibe using re-purposed material; galvanized steel, copper pipe and old barn wood. Perhaps the most interesting feature about the Milkhouse bathroom is that the water supply is entirely harvested rainwater from the barn roof. A first flush diverter system and a series of filters purify the rainwater before it enters the Milkhouse. Rainwater is good for your hair! Atleast thats what my granny told me :).

In the lower barn (attached to the Silo) kitchen basics are provided.

Sleeping-
The cozy 5th floor/loft houses a queen size bed.

Please note*
Additional charge for groups larger than 2, we provide a queen size air mattress with additional bedding for guests to set up on the 4th floor.

The space includes common (and not so common) amenities depending on the season such as:

-Linens & towels
-Hot water (seasonal)
-Shower/tub (seasonal)

-Air Conditioning
-Fireplace
-Fans
-Small fridge with freezer

Winter Talk:
The Silo is best suited for 3 seasons. Before the first freeze, we shut down the rain water bathroom and open the outhouse (heated). The 1800s stove sets a nice ambiance but does little to heat the silo if the outside temperature is under 50 degrees F. We are continually improving the creature comforts of the space and appreciate your ideas and input! If you do decide to book during winter, please bring warm clothes and be prepared for a rustic glamping experience.

Improvements:

-A/C vent to lofted peak
-Blinds
-2 hammock chairs
-Card/coffee table
-New screened-sliding windows wrapping the 360 degree view of the 4th floor.

Water:
Though the rain water is filtered, we suggest you stick with the water provided for drinking. This is located in a large dispenser in the entrance of the silo.

Things to do!

Rural Wisconsin. Fresh air. Stars and frogs at night. Sometmes you can see fireflies light up the fields come dusk during summer months. Quiet. Campfires (bring your own wood). Close to one of Wisconsins best biking trails (Glacial Drumlin Trail). Nearby snowmobile trails. Rivers. Lakes. Kayaking. Halfway point between Milwaukee and Madison.

Most activities within 15-25 minutes:

Multiple lakes and rivers for any kind of water fun you can imagine.

We recommend Upper Nemahbin (say that 3 times fast) for their kayak and paddle board rentals and their secluded warm shallow bay. Rent a kayak or boat to get to the bay! Al's Bait Shop on lake Nemahbin for pricing.

The rental shop is located next to their cozy bar (Panga) with beautiful outdoor seating where you can watch the sun go down over the lake while enjoying a pretty decent copper cup, Mascow Mule ;-)

Good cross country skiing and downhill skiing within 25-45 minutes.

Glacial Drumlin State Trail- beautiful 52 mile biking/walking trail. It is located just a few minutes bike from our house. A converted multi purpose rail trail that connects to the Ice age trail. Please see there website for more details.

Vetro Winery- Offers tour packages complete with wine tastings and pairings. About a 10 minute drive and 45 minute bike ride via the Drumlin Trail. Call to reserve.

Jelli's Market- 5 minute bike ride from our house. A fun day of picking strawberries or raspberries is sure to delight you, especially if you eat one or 2 while you work. The ride out to the field is bumpy and sure to make you giggle and the small petting zoo will entice your inner child! If picking isn't your thing, you may buy them pre-picked. See a full list of picking seasons and offered fruits and veggies. Jelli's Market in Helenville WI.

Fireside Dinner Theater- This local dinner theater is renowned for its live performances of many classic Broadway musicals and plays. It has been a staple in the area for many years. If you love music, acting, and art, please take a night of your stay to enjoy this local treasure.

The Bark River-
Spend a summer afternoon floating down the bark river, inner-tube purchases available where you put in at Pickets, a small town convenience store.

Other fun lakes:
Rock Lake-Lake Mills. Check out their Sandy Beach.
Okauchee Lake, Okauchee.
Pewaukee Lake, Pewaukee. Check out their beach and paddle board rentals.

Johnson Creek Outlet Mall;
If shopping is your thing, the mall is only a 10 minute drive and offers enough stores to satisfy anyone looking to shop till they drop!

Aztalan State Park- Home to historic Indian Burial Mounds. It's a beautiful park with a history lesson. For more information see Aztalan State park for more details.

Hwy 18 Outdoor theater- Feeling a bit retro? In summer you can enjoy the local outdoor theater. If you've never done this, it's a wonderful experience. Bring your blankets and pillows, lean your seat back and enjoy the show. If you have a truck you're invited to swing it around and fill the bed with whatever cozy items you'd like, including your pet. Have a look at Highway 18 Outdoor Theater for show times and directions.

Jefferson Swap Meet and Car Show- One of the largest outdoor car shows in the area, over 99 acres of classic cars for your viewing pleasure. The cars are beautiful and the giant ice cream bars are as good a reason as any to check out this event. Check the website for dates and times.

Wisconsin Sky Diving Center- Specializing in first time sky diving, if you're a naturalist and an adrenaline junkie, look no further.

The Silo is on our family's farm. Though the Silo is private and off-set from the house, you may see our family, friends or other guests at times. We may be there to show you in or guide you through self check-in. Our goal is to make ourselves available as-needed to answer questions you may have while respecting your privacy.
