Experience a getaway in an 1890's hand hewn post and beam barn, renovated for your comfort. Ride out your back door to Green Mountain Trails, one of New England's best mountain biking networks. After a day of adventure, sit back and enjoy the views of the valley on the deck and cook a meal for friends in the fully stocked kitchen with soaring post and beam ceilings. Comfortable bedding and ample space will ensure everyone finds a place to rest and recover for the next days outing.

The Barn is a unique space that sits on 34 acres of the Tweed River Valley in Stockbridge Vermont.

Walk in past the leaning grain silo, to the entry area where you can store your boots and outdoor gear. Walk up stairs to the living space and take in the 30 ft cathedral ceilings with hand-hewn beams and wide plank ceilings. The three wood stoves and sauna will keep you warm when the temperature dips. Bring your mountain bikes and ride along the Tweed River on the VAST trail to connect to the Green Mountain Trails, one of the best mountain bike destinations in the North East. Or jump on your road bike and ride the along on scenic highway Rt 100. Enjoy a swim in the Tweed River in the swimming hole on the rivers bend. Cast your line into the clear rushing mountain water and catch the plentiful supply of wild and stocked trout (rainbow, brook and brown). Enjoy a glass of wine or local IPA on the deck overlooking the valley after a day on the river or on the trail. For downhill thrill seekers, Killington Mountain (14 miles) and Sugarbush Resorts (30 miles) are in close driving distance.

A central chimney towers over the living room, kitchen and dining room. The main floor has a large full bathroom with a wood fired sauna, a den, living room, dining area, kitchen, and deck offering views of South Hill and the river valley. The living room has a two large couchs and a love seat for extra seating. The main floor also has a den off of the laundry that has a daybed (two twins beds) and a two twin beds. The second floor has a full bathroom and two bedrooms with queen beds. The loft bedroom on the third floor has a double bed. The sheets, pillows, quilts, and down comforters provide a comfortable place to rest while the hand hewn rafters provide a rustic and country atmosphere. The open atmosphere of the house makes it a fun space for families and groups to enjoy. Please DO NOT climb the hay ladders as they are meant for architectural details only.

The kitchen is stocked with utensils, glass ware, plates, mugs, pots and pans. There is a gas grill available for guests use. Please make sure to turn off the gas at the tank when you are finished cooking.

There is an oil fueled forced hot air furnace that is controlled by a digital thermostat. Cord wood is provided for auxilary heat. Please DO NOT use the wood stove if you do not have experience operating them. They are not fire places and can be damaged if used improperly.

Two french doors open up on the main floor out to a deck that over looks the property and the Tweed River Valley. The property has plenty of outdoor space for guests activities and lawn games.

Exit the front door, walk across the driveway and walk down the grass path to the river front. The Tweed River is a tributary of the White River that flows into the Connecticut River. Its flows can be highly variable depending on the local weather. The river side is a great place to hang out and relax with a book or a tube. Be aware that severe rain storms can cause the water levels to rise quickly. Do not leave valuables (chairs, umbrellas, tubes, coolers etc) by the river overnight as they may be swept away if there is significant rain up stream.

Stockbridge, Vermont, Bandaríkin

The area is called the Heart of the Green Mountains. There's activities for all in the surrounding mountains no matter what the season.

Spring offers great local fishing, kayaking, and canoeing. The Tweed River and the White River (1 mile downstream) are known for their trout fishing. The rivers are stocked with rainbow, brook and brown trout a few miles down stream. There is a strong population of wild trout as well. Be sure to check in at the local gas station to get your fishing license. Bass and perch are also caught on these rivers.

When the trails dry out, the mountain biking trails offered at Green Mountain Trails are some of the best in New England. The house is situated well for road bikers to ride Vermont's scenic Route 100 and complete loops including: Rochester Gap, Brandon Gap, and Middlebury Gap.

For those looking for a more relaxing getaway. Vermont River Tubing offers river tube rentals with drop off and pick up for float times that fit your schedule. For the thrill seekers, Killington Mountain and Sugarbush Resrort offer downhill mountain biking, hiking, gondola rides, and a rock climbing.

Winter time activities include Killington, Pico, Mad River and Sugarbush Ski resorts, extensive networks of backcountry and cross country ski trails, multiple cross country ski centers, snowmobile trips and the VAST trail snowmobile network.

Vermont offers a robust and proud selection of locally crafted beers. The largest microbrewery in Central Vermont, Long Trail Brewery, is 25 minutes from the property. With a great selection of pub fare, fresh beers on tap, and a self guided tour, it makes for a must see stop on your trip. The local General Store also has a great selection of locally brewed beers. Bring your growlers to get whatever fresh brews the General Store has on tap. The selection rotates but often has award winning Vermont beers on tap from breweries like Rock Art and Lost Nation, Foley Brothers Brewing, Harpoon Brewery, Fiddle Head Brewery and many more!

Ask your host about setting up a Brewery Tour of a few local breweries and cideries!
