Það sem verður gert

A Ten Apple Farm goat hike is a two hour recreational and educational goat experience. You'll meet your hosts (and our herd of Alpine dairy goats), and hear about their 15 years of experience with goats and living on a small family farm. Once we've met the goats and other animals residents of the farm, we’ll set off on a hike through the Ten Apple Farm woods with the goats. The hike consists of an approximately one mile loop trail through our woods on fairly well maintained trails. Along the way we’ll talk about goats as pack animals and you’ll learn a thing or two about raising and caring for goats. There's lots of time for interacting with the goats, asking questions, or just soaking in the Maine woods and these adorable, fun animals. We end the experience with fresh goat milk and homemade cookies!

Please note: Due to COVID-19 safety protocols, we can only do goat milking lessons with private groups, and can only have 4-5 people in the barn at a time. Thank you for understanding.

Please note: On the hike there is some steep terrain. Children must be at least 5 years old and accompanied by an adult. (Children under 4 must be carried).
Other things to note
The hike is not strenuous, but there is a little bit of steep terrain in 2 spots. We have rope railings on the trail to assist with getting up and down in those spots, but guests who have bad knees, hips, or other difficulty mobility-wise may not find this to be an appropriate activity.

Staðsetning

A Ten Apple Farm goat hike starts at our 1901 traditional New England connected Farmhouse and homestead. We have spent the past 14 years restoring the homestead's agricultural heritage. We are a diversified farm, so there's a little bit of everything here, and something for everyone: goats, pigs, sheep, poultry, a large garden, fruit trees, and 18 acres of beautiful Maine woods and trails, on which we hike with the goats.

Margaret and Karl are simply wonderful people and a joy to be around. My husband and I had the BEST time hiking with them and the goats. They went above and beyond our expectations. Highly recommend!!

This experience was ABSOLUTELY so educational, so fun, and I can't even begin to put into words how wonderful it was to be able to take part in this amazing experience. Karl and Margaret were beyond kind, welcoming, and truly warm and caring. They are so passionate about what they do and in general are probably two of the sweetest people I have ever had the pleasure of meeting. We started off our tour with goat milking lessons and the goats were just a bundle of sunshine and all of them had their unique personalities and it was so therapeutic to spend time with these fantastic creatures. (There was even a friendly sheep who tagged along too named Philip!) The hike was wonderful and educational and Karl was an exceptional host as he walked us through the farm trails. At the end we enjoyed the goat milk that we had helped produce with homemade cookies (Shaped like goats!!) baked with love by Margaret. Overall, we are so grateful we were able to experience this lovely tour and would recommend this experience to anyone who loves animals and would like to relax with some wonderful people and gorgeous goats! Thank you both again so much!! I hope that I can return some time in the near future to visit Ten Apple Farm once more! You guys are awesome!

We had a lovely time on our goat hike! Karl was very informative and shared may fascinating tidbits about farm life in general. Our kids loved the interaction with the goats, and Philip the "honorary goat". The property is so serene and it was easy to get "lost in the moment". We especially loved the nice touch of enjoying fresh goat milk and cookies at the end of our hike... our kids are still raving about them days later!

We had a great time at Ten Apple Farms!! Karl and Margaret are wonderful and charismatic hosts, we learned a lot about goats and farm living, and are already discussing our return. We found ourselves saying over and over during the hike that "nobody can be mad at anything here" it is so serene and relaxing to take a couple of hours to experience farm living. The goats coming along for the hike was just the coolest and fun experience, and of course the fan favorite - Philip the sheep. The kids were tickled and are still talking about the goats and Philip days later! Ending the hike with fresh goat milk and cookies was an absolute treat, and we will remember our visit here fondly. The property is beautiful and it is really cool seeing what Karl & Margaret have built here and learning about their future plans! If you are in Maine this has to be on your list of things to do!!

My family of five had a wonderful afternoon learning about goat farming and taking a beautiful walk in the woods. My kids had a ball and we did too. I would highly recommend booking!
