Það sem verður gert
Shodo—traditional Japanese calligraphy—has become an integral part of the Japanese tea ceremony, so we’ll sip on seasonal infusions over sweets as we get to know each other. Then we will begin with some yoga to put you at ease. After this, I will teach you the Kanji characters used in ancient Japanese writing. You’ll learn the basic process of calligraphy, including how to make sumi—the inkstick, and how to hold the fude, or brush, as well as a little bit about their histories. By the end you’ll be able to write your own name in Kanji, and understand why Shodo has been a traditional Zen way of bringing harmony to both body and spirit.
I'm a professional Shodo artist with a master license, which is the highest level of achievement for calligraphy in Japan. I have been practicing Shodo for over 25 years and have experience teaching all of its styles including tensho, reisho, and gyosho. Shodo is a big part of my life and I enjoy sharing this passion with everybody.
