Það sem verður gert

Our life and our tours are governed by the tides which are roughly an hour later every day, hence the daily time variations to ensure we always "go with the flow". Tours normally use stable double kayaks (single are available for experienced paddlers and carry a £5 supplement). All kayaking equipment is provided and tours last 3 hours.
After a short briefing we paddle from Golant with the tide. Our Creeks & Backwaters tour will take you up the estuary on the high tide and along "Wind in the Willows" Creek to picturesque Lerryn village. By contrast our low tide Wildlife & Waterfronts tour paddles down the estuary's wooded foreshores to Fowey's historic harbour. Tours start and finish in Golant and include a 30 minute break in Lerryn or Fowey where there are plenty of eating and drinking options. Herons, egrets, cormorants, shags, various waders and gulls are usually seen as are kingfishers, sandpipers and oystercatchers most months of the year. If you're lucky you might see a seal, a dolphin or a migrating osprey hunting for fish.
Our Boatshed base has a seasonal cafe and nearby is the excellent Fishermans Arms pub which overlooks the estuary. Parking nearby is available.

David and Karen run Encounter Cornwall, which since 2006 has been operating guided kayak tours on the Fowey Estuary, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and a Marine Conservation Zone. Our tours run from our quiet , safe and sheltered Boatshed base in Golant at the heart of the Fowey Estuary. We are rated No 1 activity in the Fowey Area on Trip Advisor and won 3 Cornwall 2018-19 Tourism Awards (Guided Tour, Wildlife Friendly Business and Sporting & Active Experience).
Our tours are an ideal introduction to kayaking, to the Fowey's tidal waters and wildlife, and are suitable for anyone who is reasonably fit, including complete beginners. We are passionate about the estuary wildlife which include kingfishers, herons, egrets, cormorants and waders and if you're very lucky a seal or a dolphin.
Tours operate daily throughout the year.

Staðsetning

Kayaks get you to places others can't visit and put you on a level with the estuary's birds and waterfronts. The Fowey Estuary is a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and Marine Conservation Zone. Its steep ancient wooded valleys are timeless, steeped in history and a haven for wildlife. Fowey, Lerryn and our Golant base have been settlements for over 1000 years and are all relatively unspoilt and undiscovered backwaters of Cornwall.

We kayaked for an hour and a bit around the banks and had a bunch of different animals pointed out and given fun factoids. 30 minute stop in the beautiful town of Fowey to grab a quick bite and have a nosey. Back in the kayaks for another hour and a bit and shown around some beautiful old docks and shown other animals of significance. Overall, a beautiful experience that I would happily book again!

My wife, myself and 9 year old son did the kayaking trip today and it was fantastic.David was a tremendous host who made every one feel included and safe. He gave information about the surrounding area and nature and, helped by the great weather, we left dreaming of living on the banks of this magical river.i highly recommended this activity

David and Bronte provided us with a truly memorable trip along the Fowey estuary by sharing their knowledge of the area whilst getting to know each family group. The stop off at Llewyn for a snack and a chat added to the enjoyment. Thank you both very much.

The river view is magical and beautiful, not too many boats to make you stressed out or distracted. David & the team are exceptional and they do pay attention to the safety of everyone. This was my first time trying to kayak, and I was a bit nervous but the way the explained things and paid attention to my safety and ability to manage was really reassuring and it allowed me to relax and enjoy the experience more. Although three hours might sound long, they actually pass by very quickly, and there’s a pitstop where you can refresh so the journey back wouldn’t be difficult. At gathering point there’s a small cafe inside as well, so you can recharge before starting. I really appreciate how David and the team made me feel welcomed and took effort to make conversation. Which really made this experience extra pleasant. I would absolutely recommend this experience, and It would be on my list whenever I comeback to the area.

This was a lovely couple hours of kayaking in a beautiful location. Really great tour leaders - very attentive, took care of everyone, lovely people and great to chat with on the river. David the “host” wasn’t one of them, but that’s fine. It’s with a tour group (Cornwall Experience I think it’s called), so you can also just call them directly to sign up. We loved it and would recommend it. Also spent 30-40 min in Fowey walking around (you kayak there and back) which was a great bonus.

Fleiri ábendingar

Our trips are an enjoyable and relaxing introduction to kayaking and the Fowey Estuary and not an endurance test. A reasonable level of fitness is enough (able to walk a couple of miles). Our double kayaks are very stable and capsizes are extremely rare.

Hvað þarf að taka með

Dress for the weather as if you were walking. Legs often get splashed so waterproof trousers or shorts are good.

Footwear often gets wet. Old trainers or beach shoes are ideal.
