Það sem verður gert

We'll start at Homomonument—the first monument in the world dedicated to the gay and lesbian victims of the Holocaust. We'll walk through historic Amsterdam and enjoy the scenery while I tell you about the gay history of the city. We'll see the canals, the palace on Dam Square, and the Red Light District. Henk will enlighten you about being gay in the 17th Century and about prosecution during the centuries and how gay men and women found ways to live their lives. He takes you back to 1970 when social revolution and a gay writer paved the way for a thriving gay life in Amsterdam as Gay Capital. We'll end the tour at Café 't Mandje, a gay bar that opened in 1927.

I'm a history nerd and have been living in Amsterdam my whole life. I know a lot about Amsterdam, and as a gay man, I'm also very acquainted with both gay history and modern gay life in this amazing city.

If you want to go off the beaten paths then this tour is what you need to do. Henk was super friendly, funny and enthusiastic about his topic. You see he's putting his heart into these tour. Henk takes you around the city of Amsterdam telling you the history of how the LGBTQ+ Community in Amsterdam developed from underground meetings to what it is now. He's super open and answered all of our questions.

Henk is a very engaging guide. He will give you a brilliantly intertwined snapshot of the LGBT culture and history of Amsterdam dating back to the 17th century to present days.

I thoroughly enjoyed the few hours I spent with Henk on this tour. His insights to the historical and political context of GLBT Amsterdam were intelligent and well-researched. He’s also extremely warm and easy to feel very comfortable with.
