Það sem verður gert
Guests will be collected from their accommodation or from an agreed meeting point. We will then travel to our first stop, a lovely taverna situated at the edge of the Aegean where we will have refreshments, including the best spinach pies I have ever tasted! From the taverna we will journey along the north coast to Kavousi, before turning on to a dirt road that will take us high into the mountains. We will stop several times en route to identify and photograph wild flowers. The views on this trip are stunning and really breath taking. We will stop at an isolated mediaeval church, with the remnants of ancient frescoes. The views from behind the church are magnificent and there are several endemic wild flowers to find and enjoy. From the church we will continue to climb until we reach a little known late Minoan site, where we can clamber amongst the stones and learn a little of its history. From Vrondha site, we will retrace our steps and then continue upwards to pay our respects to a venerable olive tree, which is estimated to be 3,000 years old. After a drink at a little café, we will return to the coast for a late lunch at my friend's taverna at the beach, before returning.
I have lived on Crete for the last 20 years and have run unique trips into remote areas of the island for the last 10 years. I am a professional botanical artist and have researched the wild flowers, particularly orchids and endemics. I speak at international scientific conferences on the need for conservation and education of the wonderful flora of this beautiful island. I am a fellow of The Linnaean Society of London and have had an endemic plant named for me in recognition of the work that I have done. I am passionate about showing guests the beauty of the island in all its aspects.

On this trip we will visit an ancient Byzantine church and a late Minoan site which includes a Tholos beehive tomb and a shrine to the goddess with the upraised hands. Our final stop will be at the venerable olive tree of Vrondha which is reputed to be 3,000 years old and is subject of government protection. Another highlight will be lunch at a fabulous beach side taverna which is owned and operated by a good friend of mine.
