Það sem verður gert
Imagine walking across the sea on the traditional Pilgrim’s route to the Holy Island of Lindisfarne, the Jewel of the Northumberland Coast. Imagine walking barefoot, the sand between your toes, the only sound is the splish-splash of your feet in the water and the mournful ‘singing’ of the hundreds of grey seals ‘hauled’ out on the sandbars in the bay. The crossing is dictated by the tide, so you really have to go with a guide to be safe and along the way you will hear tales of the people who over the past 1,500 years have walked this way. Once we reach Holy Island, we pause for refreshments in The Ship Inn, a traditional English pub and then we explore the Island close to the village centre. The best is yet to come, as the sun begins to set, we return to the Pilgrim’s Way and begin the crossing, this time going in the opposite direction. We are again walking barefoot, but this time towards the setting sun and it can be spectacular. The skies turn red as the sun dips below the horizon, dusk arrives and soon darkness envelops us, as we arrive back on the mainland with some brilliant memories of our sunset walk across the sea to the Holy Island of Lindisfarne.
I founded Footsteps in Northumberland in 2011 and since then, I have led hundreds of guided walks for hundreds of visitors. I qualified as a walking guide in 2011 and if I'm not on the coast, I'm in the hills and mountains of Northumberland or trekking along Hadrian's Wall, another passion of mine. I love history and I love the Pilgrim's Way to the Holy Island of Lindisfarne. Before 2011 and Footsteps, I worked in urban forestry and as a Countryside Ranger, which is where I got my love for the landscape and the people who fashioned it throughout history. I look forward to walking with you.

Kröfur til gesta
Allt að 10 gestir frá og með 12 ára aldri geta tekið þátt. Infants will have to be carried and the walk is NOT suitable for pushchairs or strollers
Because of the tides, the walk is carefully planned to ensure that we make the crossing and the return journey well within the safe crossing times and within a significant margin of safety. There are often areas of shallow seawater and a couple of narrow streams to cross, your feet will get wet.
