We offer creative and informative hands-on sessions, all experienced in Cotna's magical valley on the edge of the beautiful Rosalind Peninsula in Cornwall. Courses include 3 choices:

1. Sourdough Bread Made Easy - you will learn to bake delicious, healthy bread from flour, water, salt & natural yeasts. We will go through the different stages of sourdough baking, going away with your own loaf, warm out of the oven. Back home you will be ready to bake the very next day with your starter mix, a banneton basket & a recipe to follow – you’ll never look back!

2. Wild Food Foraging - you will learn to identify wild foods as we walk our hedgerows, woodland & fields. After foraging, we will cook up a creative meal together then sit down to a delicious feast in the beautiful farmhouse. You will take home ideas and recipes for dishes made from local plants such as pennywort, nettle, wild garlic, alexanders, flowers, micro leaves & comfrey shoots. Seasonal variations in food available to forage - spring & autumn are generally the best times for foraging!

3. Cornwall meets Kerala - you will learn the alchemy of delicious & colourful South Indian food using seasonal ingredients and benefitting from a healthy Ayurvedic perspective. We will pick ingredients from the beautiful organic gardens or wild from the woodland for our dishes, depending on time of year.

We set up Cotna Eco Retreat in Cornwall 11 years ago, and since then I have loved creating delicious & healthy home-cooked food brought in from our organic garden - as well wild food from our woodland, fields & hedgerows. I have cooked vegetarian food for most of my life, often inspired by international cuisine from the years I spent travelling & teaching English to overseas students. Now we have a stunning new farmhouse kitchen and my favourite activity is teaching seasonal cookery to guests: sourdough bread-making, South Indian dishes, wild food foraging and preserving nature's bounty.

Classes will take place in our stunning new farmhouse kitchen that overlooks the apple orchard & wildlife ponds . Bread makers can have a guided tour while the dough rises; foragers will have will have the chance to walk around Cotna's valley as we pick from the hedgerows & woodland; South Indian cooks will gather food from our organic gardens & poly tunnels.

We did the foraging course with Sara and Dave who made us feel very welcome. Their knowledge is the result of years of experience, which they were able to share in a very relaxed and friendly manner. We had a lovely inspiring time and learnt a lot, and would thoroughly recommend this experience to anyone.

Sara was awesome! My mum and I had so much fun foraging and cooking with her. The food and the place were so lovely! Learned so much in just one day! Hope we can come back and stay in the yurts next time 😊

I can’t recommend enough to book with Sara & Dave! The whole experience from start to finish was really special and unique. If you want to feel relaxed then book a yurt. The cooking was really fun in the farmhouse and the food was some of the best I’ve ever had. So fresh and tasty. The walk and foraging was really informative and such a beautiful setting. Thank you. We will be back!
